Battling Vampires

Post by Corak »

I'm looking for suggestions for battling vampires in Chapter 3. I can't use magic and they keep level draining me. I don't have enough gold to restore my characters. Any ideas would be appreciated.

*sigh* ok, since you're BATTLING vampires let me assume that Aran Linvail has given you that neato amulet? Good. Take that amulet, put it on your best tank, go to the city gates, get the longsword Daystar (do a search of Daystar on the forums to figure out exactly how to get it + tips on how to battle the lich guarding it), and use its special ability: Sunray. This powerful spell will do mucho damage to undead, and can instantly slay them (vampires, as if you didn't know already, are undead). Put daystar on the same dude wearing Amulet of Power. He won't be level-drained, and a Sunray blast will turn most if not all the vampires swarming around him into putty.

what is your character/party? amulet of power has immunity to level drain, if you can equip them, then you should definitely use them

Thanks. While browsing the forum (new member) I found the search function. I'll use it first next time.
Off I go.

Still, don't hesitate to ask for help again if you get stuck. :)

Another (quick) suggestion for handling undead and vampires - get Azuredge and put it in Minsc's or Korgan's free weapon slot. That way they can handle any undead pretty quickly. I've even killed Bhodi with it!

If you don't know where Azuredge is - free the slaves in the Copper Coronet and then speak with Hendak.

Cheers

Korgan can't use Azuredge, only good aligned Char. can.
But is one of the best weapon for fighting undeads!
If you have high lev. priest you can turn them; cast Negative plane prot. on your party (you can have it casted to all your party with an option of lim. wish spell).

Only mages can use the amulet of power, so you can't equip it to a tank unless it's a ___/Mage. So unless you have a decent dual classed tank/mage, I wouldn't bother with daystar. Unless you cast negative plane protection.

Huh? Amulet of Power cannot be used by pure fighters. Even if it's true (I'm not really sure), Anomen, Minsc, Jaheira or even Cernd could wear it.

Amulet of Power

It makes some sense... One of the effects is to reduce spellcasting speed/ only spellcasters can use it...

Who can cast spells? Rangers, Paladins, Clerics, Druids, Bards, Sorcorers, and, of course, Mages... :D

@lompo
Whoops, I completely missed that! That's the problem of having an all good party - anyone can use the axe. Oh, I noticed that only Good-aligned people can use it, Neutrals can't either.

@everyone else
Anyone who can cast spells can wear the Amulet of Power. I've had Minsc wearing it, as well as Anomen. Keldorn can't however.

[Spoilers]
Heh, I was in Spellhold last night, and when Bhodi and the two extra vampires attacked me Minsc killed one instantly, Keldorn (weilding the Mace of Disruption) killed another with his first blow) and then... Well Bhodi ran off quickly! :D
[\Spoilers]

Cheers all,

Inquistors (Keldorn's kit) do not get any access to spells or some of the Paladin specials (Lay on Hands). However, they do get the awesome True Sight and Dispel Magic abilities (try them sometime - rockage).

Another suggestion for some real vampire butt-kicking action - dual wield Azuredge with the Mace of Disruption +2 in the hands of Minsc or your best fighter. It's not much of a fight.

Unfortunatly you can't dual wield Azuredge, being a throwable weapon (you can equip only shield with it).
But anyhow what the use of it? they both do the same, so actually you get only one extra attack tha destroy undead: just add Belm/Kundane and you get the same effect with extra dmg (the off hand dmg).
