Evil party (Suggestions for PC class)
Viconia - primary divine caster, undead turning, can make a decent frontliner with str enhancing items
I disagree, give her a girdle of hill giant strength and she has 19 strength and 1 attack per round. Even when she’s 35th level in TOB she still only has one attack per round because she’s a pure class cleric. This is a big no no for a front line fighter. At 35th level Korgan will have 5 attacks per round. If you want a cleric that is a front line fighter take Anomen and make him fail his test, he then will fit into an evil party and he starts with 2 attacks per round and it only goes up as he levels.
Use that belt on Haer’ Dalis at least he has 3 points in duel wielding (which a cleric can’t have) that allows him multiple attacks per round. You are wasting a belt on Viconia when someone else can profit from it better.
Viconia is great for spells and a sling, not tanking it up front with the fighters.

Frontline fighting isn't all about damage dealing... Viconia can tank very well because of her high dex, combined with a good armor and shield she can reach very good AC values. Though I agree that's only useful early in the game, in ToB and late SoA AC becomes almost irrelevant because of the very low THAC0 of most enemies.
There are three kinds of people that no one understands: geniuses, madmen and guys that mumble.

Well... we talk about an Evil party... so a druid doesn't have his place here.
Maybe an Anti-Paladin from Tactics mod? This could be *more than perfect* from a roleplay perspective.
A Swashy/Cleric, Swashy/Fighter or even Swashy/Mage could be fun to play too.
BTW : Swashy/Cleric rocks!
18 Str (Will be 20 with Hell Test, 25 with CF)
18 Dex
18 Con
18 Wis
3+ Int
3+ Cha
- Swashbucklers are quite good fighters and can dual-wield. You can dual-wield a whole set of blunt weapons including Flail of the Ages, Cromh Faeyr and the Mace of Disruption.
- You can buff yourself with spells such as Draw Upon Holy Might, Champion Strengh, Armor of Faith, Righteous Magic, etc.
- You can access to high-level divine spells.
- You can use thievery skills you won't give to Jan Jansen (Set Traps, Hide in Shadow, Move Silently).
- You will have the possibility to use heavy armors in fights (You won't need to set traps or to hide while you're in the action).
- You will have HIGH saving throws and AC because of your high dexterity and wisdom.
- You will have the ability to "Charm Undead" (Like Viconia ) instead of repulsing them.
Drawbacks :
- You're not as good as a fighter in melee
- You'll gain a low amount of weapons profiencies
- Your abilities doesn't fit in the action bar
- You can't use thievery while in heavy armor
There are so many strength enhancing items in the game that there's really no need to invest 18 points in it, especially with a smaller party. One more reason why halflings make at least as capable fighter type characters as other races do.
With 3 Int you're gone after a single hit from certain brain eaters. Also, from a roleplaying point of view, it's a little annoying. You could hardly speak at that level.
3 Cha is a another roleplaying affair, before you get your hands on the ring of human influence, not even a skunk would join your party in normal AD&D.
The above roll (sum is 78) is a little substandard (for player characters) btw.

Phantom brings up a good point. To make a character especially for a roleplaying stand point then mess with his stats so he is a power character, wouldnt that take away from the rp idea? seems backwards to me id let the roll decide then slightly modify it.

Thanks for all the replies. Great ideas all over here!
Been thinking about what everybody has said, and I do need another meatshield. However, I feel Viconia can do just fine as the only cleric, so right now I'm considering a pure fighter (Never really been much for dual/multiclassing) dualwielding either longswords or flail/warhammer. Never had any character dualwield when I 've played it through before so figured it would be a nice experiment
Oh and as a note, running with less than a full party is not an option for me since I enjoy the RP between the partymembers way too much.

Heya Nathanial,
Currently in my good aligned party I only have the one Cleric (Anomen) and it is a little limiting. Whilst Jan and Imoen can quickly blast out some powerful spells, there are certainly circumstances (cough vampires cough) where I need two sets of Cleric spells going off at once. A secondary Cleric would be very helpful.
A straight fighter is fine, but don't give up the idea of a Cleric!
Cheers,
TGHO
Hello.
I was going to play an evil party for the first time.
Was thinking this setup:
Me
Edwin
Viconia
Korgan
Haer'dalis
Jan Jansen
Now, the problem; what class should I pick here? I want to romance Viconia, so believe I need a half-elf or human. I was thinking an Archer but believe I need to have a good alignment to play one which would rule it out. Thoughts?
I too think you have enough spellcasters. It wouldnt hurt to add another fighter. In serious games (not experimenting), i usually go with 2 tankers. Single-tanker groups worries me in golem-gangbang situations, or maybe it's just me. I would feel much more comfortable going head-to-head with 2 tankers.
My choice of PC would be either a dualed fighter/cleric or fighter/mage. Plain fighter is fine too! Those 2 are my favorites among the rest.
I also remember reading somewhere that Viconia doesnt do elves. I dont know for sure, but just letting ya know.
EDIT:
Scratch figher/mage if you dont have ToB.

Well I would say drop Hear'Dalis and make an importated charecter an npc, or replace him with Keldorn, I have used him in every party cause Holy Avengers rock. If your going RP all the way I say stick with Hear'Dalis and get Sarevok in ToB.

Those were "ideal stats".
Notice the "+"s right after the "3"s.
If you're going with dual-wielding blunt weapons, you could be a Berserker/Cleric. Those are really goods for combat (Clerics have alot of buffing spells!).
This reminds me of a character I wanted to take through the game from BG1 on (I've never finished the project unfortunately). Berserker/Cleric specialized in Staves. Named him "Darth Maul" . The idea was to go through BG1 with only him and Coran, then to enter BG2 and take out Kangaxx immediately ...
