Critical hits?

When you score a critical hit, what dmg get multiplied: only the dmg of the weapon (i.e. 1-8+2 for a +2 L.sword) or the total dmg dealt by the Char (including extra dmg from strenght, power attack, spells, items)?

AFAIK you should get everything multiplied besides sneak attacks, magical & elemental damage !

Don't think you get any additional damage modifiers even if non-elemental or magical. So, if a mace does 1d8+1 B dmg and +1d6 piercing, I think you only get crit multiplier * 1d8+1+str bonus only. Will check later though.

I have payed more attention to the dmg dealt in the message board, and my barb. wielding an g.axe dealt crits of around 90 dmg; considering that his average dmg. is 32, that means that the critical hit multiply all dmg (regarding elemental/extra effects I don't know because he is using a plain +3 g.axe).
Also when I made the check the barb wasn't under any dmg enhancing spell (prayer/hope holy power etc.).

Different weapons have different critical hit effects. Most weapons have a critical hit threat range of 19-20 and do x2 damage. This means that if you roll a natural 19 or 20 hit roll, you get to check if your attack is a critical hit (another attack roll is rolled and if it is sucessful, your hit is a critical hit). If sucessful your will critical hit for 2x the weapons damage+ str bonus+ enchantment bonus. Any extra damage like fire, slashing or piercing damage is then added on seperatelyt but doesn't get multiplied.

Axes, Halberd and a few other weapons like arrows have a critical threat range of 20 but a multiplier of 3 instead of 2. This effectively means you will critical hit less often (you need a natural 20 instead of 19 or 20), but will do triple damage instead of double when you do. Thats why your Barbarian with a Greataxe is doing so much damage when he critical hits.

Overall I actually prefer triple damage but less threat range. Some weapons like Cowards Flight are Keen Great Axes, so they have a threat range of 19-20 but still do 3x damage, with the Improved Critical feat this increases to 18-20 and with Executioners Eyes in effect it rockets up to 14-20. My barbarian wielding Cowards Flight will do triple 1-10 (base)+5 (enchantment) +2(guantlets of weapon expertise)+10 (1.5xstrength mod.) so he can get upto 81 damage without buffing from Emotion: Hope and Recitation, then has a 50% chance of slowing and them another 50% of Panicing them due to the weapons abilites, and another chance thanks to Dirty Fighting.

Getting Critically Hit is not fun!!
