One question...do you use light armor? Or are you unarmored?

Well, there is some nice light armour to liberate if your thieving skills are good enough

And in a certain location you can also simply walk off with a few pieces of Orcish armour (medium)... good for cash if you don't wear it...

;)

Spoiler Below: Highlight to read:
Go to Ghostgate. In one of the Towers (Dusk, I think) you'll find a passageway going downwards. Follow it and eventually you'll come to a large room with several doors leading off of it... one of them holds a merchant with various pieces of glass arnour scattered around the room... ;)

btw, you may want to check out the search function here at Game Banshee, if you key in the name/item/person etc. that you want information on, you'll come up with some great stuff

one tip for you before stealing the armor. you need a sneak skill of about 80 with some chameleon (i used about 30%) to steal the stuff consistently without getting caught. if you can train up to 80 in sneak you dont need to kill the smith. if you want to just grab the gear, kill the smith, pay the fine and then return to the room, shut the door and grab everything. and remember to check the crates :)

edit: as well, you might want to look into the cuirass of the savior's hide. light armor, decent CE enchantment and a max armor class of 266
