Levelling in Chapter 5

Post by The Great Hairy »

Gidday all,

Well my good party is in the middle of Chapter 5, and I'm wondering if this is a common level breakdown:

Keldorn - 17th
Minsc - 18th
Anomen - 20th
Me (Bard) - 20th
Jan - 14th Thief/12 Illusionist
Imoen - 7th Thief/15th Mage

That seems rather high for me - I didn't finish all of the quests in Chapter 2 & 3 (no Trademeet, Druid's Grove, no dragons, no Watchers, etc., etc.). Are most groups that sort of level in Chapter 5? I seem to be having a relatively easy run, not even Elder Eyes (or whatever they are called) are much trouble!

Cheers,
TGHO

I think that's quite common if you do nearly all sidequests in chapters 2 and 3.
Not so much if you skip sidequests, but more so if you play with mods. I usually reach 3 million xp at the end of chapter 5 when playing without mods, and near the start of chapter 5 when playing with a few mods. That's without Watchers' Keep (I never go there in SOA except to buy some stuff), but including most sidequests in chapters 2 and 3.

That does seem a little high. I skipped about as many sidequests as you did before heading off to Brynnlaw, and by the end of Chapter 5 I was also at about 3 million xp, which you've got to be pretty far beyond in order to have 20th level characters, I think. Right now, having completed -every- last quest (yes, even that silly Limited Wish adventure, Kangaxx, Twisted Rune, etc.) prior to going to see Bohdi in chapter 6, Keldorn and Minsc just very recently hit 18th level. I'm honestly not sure where there's a significant pool of xp available I didn't hit that would account for you getting to the same point while still having missed several side quests.

Oh, and my character was imported from BG1 at maximum xp (160,001).

If you're playing with mods, that may explain it. I'm not.

The classes level up at different speed, so a 20th level bard is nothing special for chapter 5.
Bards and Thieves reach level 23 under SoA's exp-cap, clerics and monks reach level 21, fighters and barbarians reach level 19, and mages, sorcerors, paladins and rangers only level 17.
There are three kinds of people that no one understands: geniuses, madmen and guys that mumble.

Well I'm in Chapter 6 now, and my breakdown is:

Keldorn - 19th
Minsc - 20th
Anomen - 23rd
Me (Bard) - 24th
Jan - 16th Thief/14th Illusionist
Imoen - 7th Thief/17th Mage

I'm in Trademeet at the moment, doing the secondary quests (done the Druid Circle).

@Qwinn
Yeah, I have a bunch of mods installed, but pretty much only UB and Oversight give extra quests and the like.

It just seems to me that I am levelling a lot more than in my previous run-throughs of the game!

Cheers all,
TGHO
