Starting Equipment

Post by geh4th »

I am new to BG2 and new to this board as well; I have done my best to search the threads but cannot find the answer to my question. I have a character I played all the way through BG1 and have imported him into BG2.

Somewhere I read that (of course) your equipment does not import with you, but there is some "upgrading" of existing stuff to reflect what you had on import, I guess to reward you for playing BG1 in the first place. If so, I cannot find any sign of the "upgraded" stuff. I tested this out by playing all of chapter 1 and most of chapter 2 with the imported PC as well as one I generated. Same stuff.

I am not interested in cheating. IS there some (item) benefit to importing a character? If so, where do you find these "better" items?

The only piece's I have heard of is the Helm of Baldurn and the Sword of Chaos.

If you don't want all of your stuff from BG1 don't read any further,

Spoiler.

When you start a new game pause as soon as the screen go black. Unequip all your equipment to the floor and unpause.

So there is NO correlation between what you have in your character's possession and what can be found in BG2, except the Helm of Balduran and the Sword of Chaos? (Funny, I did not even HAVE those 2 items in my possession....but I did indeed find them in Irenicus' dungeon....) I knew of the spoiler you had mentioned, but I was looking for the INTENDED effect of importing.

Had anyone else been given the impression that I had?

I was given the same impression but could not find no secret stashes . I even took the time to Detect Traps in the whole place. I know Imoen says he probably sold all your good stuff.

I was rather upset about not finding my Cloak of non-detection, dagger of venom, Robe of the Arch-Magi, boots of speed, ring of wizardry, and ring of free action!
