Some thieving and hit point questions

Post by splunge »

I'm using Annah to steal merchandise from stores and despite her (on paper) excellent percentage of pick pockets she fails very often, turning the merchant and customers hostile. I hate the try, reload, repeat cycle so can anyone tell me what determines the odds of successful shoplifting? Also, I have no clue how hit points for multiclass characters (ie Dakkon and Annah) work. Do they gain a 1-10 for levelling in fighter and 1-4/1-6 for mage/thief or do they gain an in between amount for every level? I can't seem to figure it out. Sorry if this is basic stuff. Thanks!

From another site, I found that double classes receive half of the HP for each class, which evens it out, I guess.

For the thieving, I can't really help. How high is your PickPocket skill?
If you need money, battle a bajillion thugs and abishai and sell the spoils.
There are other things that could be done also, but I don't know how far you are along. The thugs and abishai are the only apparent ones I can say without giving anything away.

The success of pickpocketing depends on both on your skill level and the 'toughness' of merchants. Some are impossible to pick-pocket with a mediocre/low pick-pocket skill, and very hard with a high one.

What is Annah's pick pocketing skill? And which merchants are you trying to rob? I've noticed the ones in the lower ward are quite tough.

She's at about 85% plus her magic item bonuses and is trying to steal from Vish (spelling?) the curio shop owner in the clerk's ward.
I'm getting short on cash to outfit my band of jolly travellers. I'm thinking of buying useful items, selling them at a low level merchant for cash and then stealing them back. Probably will take too long to travel back and forth to make it worthwhile though.

85% isn't really that high, and stealing with that shop is almost impossible, even with a very experienced thief. I'm surprised you actually succeeded at all; I wasn't that lucky when I tried (even though I tried multiple times) and IIRC Annah's pick pocket skill was >100 at the time.

Ah, so you are in the Clerk's ward. Have you purchased the Modron Cube? One of the best ways to get some good money is to go crazy in the Modron Maze. Many of the items gained are worth a lot, plus you'll get a good amount of experience.(I recommend the hard level - mostly for the greater exp. - if you are strong enough, but the lower levels are just as item filled.)

Modron cube? Qu'est ce que c'est le Modron Cube?

This is an English speaking board, and it is thus polite to communicate using English; whoever is reading the thread should have an idea of what the discourse is about. Thanks. :)

It is in the possession of the very person from whom you are trying to steal. Read the descriptions carefully.
I cannot tell you anymore. You must figure out what do with it and all that.

You don't get Nordom at the end of the maze. He is in a random room when it is set to 'difficult' - you might want to make a paper map and make sure you've explored the whole maze.

returning to the original question.. IIRC it's rat-tail charm or smth like that that boost your pick pocket skills, and you should have them aplenty.. eat about a 10-20 of those to get your pickpocket to about 200% and then the stealing should be less risky..(it's easier to eat them all when you eat them in the inventory screen so you don't have to wait annah to consume them one at a time and wait the fx to flicker before eating another one..)

I don't know if this is an outdated topic, but Vrischika's curiosity shop has a stealing penalty of 95%. So even if you had a pick pocket skill of 100% you'd still only succeed 1 out of a hundred times. You should consider getting the torment store guide from gamefaqs.com, if you want to know how much chance you have of stealing from individual stores.
