Best music for rpg is...
I'd have to say Morrowind only because with all the others on the list the soundtrack did feel repetetive after a while. In morrowind, the soundtrack is just there for a little background noise and it's perfect.

Personally, I wanted to cast my vote for three of them.
Planescape: Torment, which I voted for, has an excellent main theme, and used the music superbly in the game, esp in the final part of the game. The music was moving.
BG2: Throne of Bhaal also has great music (Pocket Plane music and excellent the menu theme).
Icewind Dale also deserves a mention for the incredible Kuldahar theme.

Morrowind. If they had more soundtracks it would have been better, but I'm satisfied with what they do have.

For non-PC RPGs I liked Golden Sun's music. They aren't exceptionally impressive, but they are very appropriate to the situation.

My vote would go to the guy who did the music for Darklands, in 1992. His name escapes me at the moment, but he's now head of GOD Games. For an RPG set in early Renaissance German states as the inhabitants imagined it, he used authentic period music--none of the heavily Romanticized modern stuff that usually passes for the genre. That's what makes it special, and it sounds completely different from all the other RPG soundtracks you've heard, even granted the synthesized nature of the originals.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
I have to go with The Fall. The soundtrack is absolutly outstanding, enhancing the atmosphere enormously - and I say this without being a Metal fan (the main theme is something metal-like, most other songs are something in the direction of " Ethno/Tribal" - here a LINK to some of the tracks).
Referring to the poll...I would vote for BG, because it's really good and gives me the feeling of hearing something...monumental, if you know what I mean. Although it's the same with BG2 and Morrowind, the soundtrack of BG gives me a somehow nostalgic feeling.
