Who should I keep?

Post by Phoenix »

I just made an Inquisitor, and I am going to put him in my multiplayer party of 6.
I have:
Kensai with 2 in dual wield, 2 Hammers and 5 in longswords, using Adjatha the Drinker and Daystar or Dragonslayer.
Fighter with 3 in dual, 5 in Katana, using Celestial Fury and +3 Katana.
Archer with 5 in Short bow, using Tansherons bow.
Sorceress
Thief/Mage
Priestess of Lathander with Flail of Ages and Shield of Balduran or Dragon Scale shield.

Anyone got suggestions?

Whoops, that's an Inquisitor not a Cavalier

I think this is a reasonable setup, fairly balanced. You should be able to cover most situations with it.

The only remark I could make is regarding the Thief/Mage ... what is he/she exactly? Multi-class or dual class? And if dual class, what is the first and what the second class, at what level?

Oh, I just noticed you had SEVEN characters there, with the Cavalier .. I'd suggest to put him in instead of the Fighter. He's pretty much the same, with a number of extra skills.

The mage is a Dual class, Lvl 8 Thief, lvl 13 Mage. I want to keep the Fighter cause he is the only one that has proficiency with katanas, but I want the Inquisitor for an obvious reason, (Hint: It's a big sword...)

Ah, yes, Big C!

If you don't want to ditch the Figther, I would suggest to either ditch the Kensai or the Sorceress for your ... Inquisitor. I must admit I've never played with a Sorcerer/Sorceress, so this might not be a good choice ...

As for the mage-thief, if you don't really use his thieving skills, I guess that's okay. Personally I use my Fighter/Thief (6/23) alot for backstabbing, pickpocketing, lockpicking and trapfinding. But if you use them only sparingly, and they are about 60-80 %, I think that's good. You should collect and keep items that enhance those skills, like the Ring of Danger Sense and such.

The Thief is for locks, traps, and the occasional pickpocket, no backstabbing.
I guess I'll try ditching the Sorc.
Thanks.

I just thought of it ... but so far I assumed the Mage of the mage/thief is the ACTIVE class, in which he still gains exp. Is that assumption true, or is the Thief class the active one? That makes a difference, after all.

Once you know which spells are the best to ward of the evil tyrants, then a sorcerer is by far the best mage to have. If you get him high enough levels he can have three timestops Image

The Mage is the active class, forgot to add that in my last post.

Any hints on good spells to choose for Sorc?
Hints would be appreciated, (or you could just give me a list Image )

Okay, then my comment regarding it remains standing Image

As for the Sorceress, I never played it, so I can't help you there ... hopefully Sleepy or some others will fill you in. But whatever you do, you should remember that the spells you use will be a personal choice - spells that others use might not fit your playing style. For instance, I know some people are heavily into summoning spells, while I prefer the more 'direct' approach.

Pierce shield all of it's ilk such as breach, Spell sequencer so when you choose to attack a mage you can drop all his defences in one spell Image

As for attacking spells, definately flame arrow, magic missile is a must, basically go with the attacking spells that worked well as a mage, the ones you always use. Acid arrow is useful in earlier stages.

Do not bother with spells that make your mage into a fighter they are pointless and do not aid you much.

If you like creating creatures, try Spider Spawn or the one which creates a floating sword (can't remember it's name).

Detect Invisibility is a must.

I usually use my mage to remove the spell protections of other mages leaving them open to my wrath Image

Robe of Vecna is a must with any mage

It might be worth downloading shadow keeper and playing with certain spells to see which you like the most (NOTE... I do not endorse the use of said program any bugs etc. resulting from it's use are totally down to you the user Image - see funny things thread in a moment i will explain )
