I found it fantastic against elemental fire creatures. I seem to have got a one-hit kill on the elemental Prince of Fire in ToB with it, and it was great against things like Burning Men, who you want to kill before they blind all your fighters.[...]

You have to get the shaft from the planar prison (not so bad), and you have to get the head from the Sahaugin Prince's body. That means the only *good* way to get the Wave is to pickpocket the head off the Prince. Otherwise you have to side with the King (not good IMO) or slaughter the entire city (definately not good IMO) to get the Wave. [The one time I got the way, I inadvertantly attacked the Prince thinking he was one of the royal guards. I had to kill the whole city...but I got the wave ;) ]

I'd say that a *good* party could justifiably kill the entire city, as they are intrinsically evil creatures - think of the self-righteous paladin types out to wipe evil from the face of Toril. Likewise an evil party could sack the city for fun and/or profit. Only a True Neutral party would be under an obligation to maintain the balance by helping the Prince.

I say halbred rule you got the reach you the wave but one prob id that if you do go out buy a shiny halbred it is most likely going to either make you find the other piece or buy another one so you have more variety yes the halbreds don't like to generalise!Shame to vorporial blade nice effect and it isn't "Just" against a certain enemy D.Bane dragons D.Breath stone skin Wave.Fire elementals do you get the picture?

Weren't Halberd's originally created to combat cavalry and enemies on horseback? I guess that's rather redundent in SoA or ToB, but it should work just as effectly against large creatures, giants, dragons probably even beholders, since they like to do a lot of floating.

BTW I dont't think a heavy crossbow can even penetrate an unarmored man. You must be mixing up with a ballista wich was a war machine that was used before and during the middle ages.

A heavy crossbow could possibly make a hole in thin plate armour but no it is no magnum .45

Here is the scoop for allya guys...

first let it be understood I run mage cleric heay parties and enjoy the most figuring out the magical way to finess any situation. Summoned creatures are my infantry and may mages heavy artilery and infantry support. So any warriors I happen to have is always secondary to the "real"fighters. I don't play warrior heavy and don't like it.

Saverok, however is turning out to be pricesless. The best equipment for him is the ravager, and this is the way to maximize him. the best quest ability for fighters is hands down greater whirlwind.

any vorpal weapon has a 10% or more chance of killing instantly with a save. That means one hit in ten can kill instantly. Now, greater whirlwind will do 10 attacks per round. how hard is it to figure out?

In TOB vorpal weapons rule. The Ravager, axe of unyeilding are simply the only choices for warriors in the game, especially for taking on melissan or demogorgon.

Thus for warriro heavy parties, you must get BOTH korgan and Savarok.

Melisan and Demogorgon as well as the rest of the ToB 'bosses' are immune to the vorpal effect (not that Melissan is much of a challenge anyway :) ). the most powerful creatures I can remember taking out with vorpal hits were Firkraag and the Falen Solar.

also, something I've been wondering about - does Axe of the Unyealding alow a save on a vorpal hit?

did not know about the save on a vopal hit. Wonder if greater malison would help...hmmm

anyway, then I shoudl use both the wave and gram for sure damage, since I intend to turn savarok into chaotic good, he won't be able to use soul reaver any more.

Halberds and THSs, the eternal question...

Grand master them both!!!


I running a kensai/thief dualed @ lvl 15.

I max out halberd and get about 4 stars in THS. When I dual to thief I put slots in Staff, THW Style, and anything else you want really (I put them into ranged weapons).

By the time you hit lvl 38 with your character, his weapon list looks like this:

Halberd: +++++
Two Handed Sword: +++++
QuarterStaff: +++++
Two Handed Weapon Style: ++

(and the rest which have only one +, there are three I believe)


By the end of the game I'll be using the Ravager +6, the CARSOMYR +6 ( )and for 400 damage on a backstab, the Staff of the Ram +6.


Pretty sweet huh? :eek:
