Stuck at the end of Chapter 1 / Oswald / Airship

Post by ShueFly »

Hi there! I´m stuck at the end of chapter 1. I got the reward from Crale and the new quest from Ulbrec (to have Oswald fly us out to the western pass), but it´s impossible to talk to Oswald. He´s just standing there, whistling, going "Dum-de-dum" and simply doesn´t react to anything. Any ideas? Would be a great help. Running the most recent patch, btw. Thanks in advance!

...you should be able to talk to him at every point of chapter 1 !

...very strange - which version / patch / mods have you installed ?

Yeah, these kind of problems when you can't initiate dialogue with a key character are usually solved by the latest patches. Unfortunately GB's link to patch v2.01 doesn't work, but I posted another one to Useful Links.

Patched to 2.01 official, no mods. I´ve even replayed the whole first chapter to solve the problem, but it´s still the same...

You should be able to talk to him even if you weren't already instructed by Ulbrec to leave with the airhip, so I'm pretty sure this has nothing else to do with your quest progress. I don't understand

Well, I´ve tried everything possible by now. Even tried to change the global variables in DaleKeeper (KNOW_OSWALD and such), to no avail. In the very first savegame (still "Prologue"), I am actually able to talk to Oswald, but in every other later savegame (as early as the palisades-thing), he just won´t talk to me anymore. So, I suppose, I´m really quite stuck. Depresses the hell outta me, actually. Great game, otherwise.

I'm not sure this will help much but here goes. Every so often I'm unable to initiate dialogue with some of the NPCs in IWD2. I use quicksave religiously so whenever this occured I usually loaded my QS and most of the time problem was solved. There has been times where it took a couple loads. I've also had this problem in BG2. Reloading usually worked as well.

I´ve tried reloading, both quick- and normal saves, many times, doesn´t work. :(

Don't you, by any chance, have BG I-II-ToB or IWD I installed? B/c I've encountered this problem with BG when I had more than one rpg (of this series) installed, and removing the extra game and reinstalling the one I was having problem with solved the problem.

Hey, thanks, that was worth a try. I did, in fact, have an old installation of BG1. Removed it, reinstalled ID2 and, well...did nothing. Still the same old problem. Damn!

Oh, shoot  Now this problem feels like my own, so I won't rest until I find a solution for it... Might take a while, though. Patience ;)

I asked around on another board, and someone suggested to use the game console and "teleport" your party to the Western Pass. He says:

"Run the game's configuration utility and enable the cheat console option. Next, press [Ctrl] + [Tab] during game play to display the console window. Then, enter the following code:
ctrlaltdelete:movetoarea("AR#####") "
(I didn't find that area code yet).

Or you can also set the chapter:
ctrlaltdelete:setchapter(<0-6>)
(Prologue is chapter 0.)

If you don't want to use this method for some reason, send me your saved game so that I can check it for you. Maybe I spot sg you didn't (though I'm pretty sure you've tried everything possible). PM me if you're interested.

Hi there, once again. Well, indeed, I´ve tried anything possible. So, my girlfriend and I decided to replay the whole thing, and the bug didn´t occur this time, so we are fine (took a bit of time, though). But I want to say thanks and express my gratitude for you guys in this forum to have paid attention to our problem and for the help you provided so kindly. Especially Brynn, man, thank you. ;) "You da man" indeed.

It should be noted, however, that under unknown (and obviously rare) circumstances, a bug *can* occour, which can render the game, in fact, unplayable by having Oswald unresponsive prior Chapter Two.

Thanks again!
