Well, I figured I might start a thread about this, if you are looking for a good game in certain style, please post away and I will try to answer, or if you have an answer to one of mine.
I am really interested in good games similar to Age of Wonders, Kohan, Populous 3 the begining (I am already familiar with the heroes of might and magic series, if thats what you had in mind, but I dont think they are too similar, neither is black and white a satisfactory contendant).
What's so similar about kohan and age of wonders and populous? Mighty magics guide the plot, which you can partake of. Similar base building concept (towns etc). Use of heroes which are immortal (all three games) which gives you the edge, but thats ok, thats just a plot explanation to the fact you can keep on trying (saves having to reload all the time, hi I wouldnt try to conquer the world before I achive immortality either). Their graphics are pretty awesome, and similar. Their UI is easy and FUN to use, the game doesnt get TOO cluttered, its god solid controls, etc (Dominion 2 the ascension wars for example doesnt have those). They both have GOOD solid plots.
Spellforce the order of dawn, while not ALL that similar to those three games I asked for, shares some similarities and is pretty awesome. It would be a good answer.
I am also looking for good games like, neverwinter nights or temple of elemental evil.
Those two games, while dnd based (which is my least favority table top RPG) are pretty good. They both have a STRONG community thats dedicated to improving the game or creating new content (http://www.co8.org for TOEE, or the modding community for NWN, honestly the mods are better then the official campaign) and they got simple to understand fun to use UI and a cool fantasy setting.
I think playability is the most important thing, graphics, while not the most important, comprise the UI (user interface), that Is important, I am not looking for a game thats a pain to control.

I think you and me are going to be good friends.
You just named my 3 favorite games.
I assume that your familiar with with AoW2, AoW:Shadow Magic, and Kohan: Kings of War?
I prefere ShadowMagic, although in singleplayer your hero's will end up to powerfull, it's still a good and chalanging game.
A game similair to Kohan(2) is Warhammer 40.000: Dawn of War. Although the singleplayer campaign isnt complete in my opinion (only one race) it's still a very good and strategic game.
As for RPG's you could wait for Vampire:Bloodlines, i have a feeling (and i hope) that that's going to be one very good game.
I cant come up with more games that fit the discription at the moment, i will let you know when i come up with more.

I do not have the touch, nor do I have the power.
Hi, thanks alot for the response.
Well, some google showed that those two games come from companies that made some nice games before. And I am downloading the Warhammer demo... (there isnt one yet for vampire bloodlines). Thanks for the suggestions. Oh and yea, I am familiar with the other AOW and kohan games. Actually kings of war (kohan2) falls short of kohan 1. They put some improvements, but you can see they revbuilt it to make it 3d, and some things arent as good as they were before (I cant turn on the various zones, etc). And they still didnt make an autobuilder.
From the AoW series, AoW 2 is my favorite. It is far better then age of wonders 1. It is less buggy then age of wonders shadow magic, plus I liked it better then shadow magic. Ofcourse, I last played it in 2002, so my memeories of it might be painted with nostalgia.

Have you checked out the Disciples series? They offer similar RPG-flavored strategy:
1) Scenario driven, under an overarching plot.
2) You build up your cities (though not, it has to be said, by much).
3) You create small parties centered around a hero. As they gain experience, you can allocate more powers to 'em.
4) You can learn and cast spells, useful from the general landscape view, and in battle.
5) Nice graphics.
Along the same lines, try Warlords Battlecry 2. It has more armies, more buildings, and excellent AI.

Ah yes, the warlords battle cry series, got that one.. like that one..
I also have desciples 2 rise of the elves.
Thanks anyways.
Heh, but if i didnt already go through countless games I wouldnt be asking for help locating good games.. ;p
Oh, anyone hear of the game Return to Mysterious Islan or Zork Grand Inquizitor? those are two "point and click and use inventory" style adventure rpg games... anyone knows of really good ones in that regard. (ps, yes i heard of the myst series).
Isn't anyone else gonna ask for games?

Played 'em both, reviewed 'em both, when they first appeared. I'm not up on recent graphical adventures, however, though I have the Myst IV DVD sitting around. I'm frankly thinking of resuming The Longest Journey, which I never originally finished (due to job constraints), and liked quite a lot. For sheer wealth of detail and seriousness of writing, I don't think it's been matched.
And of couse, for sheer humor, neither the Monkey Island series nor Sam and Max Hit the Road has ever been matched. And for artistic style, Grim Fandango was fantastic. What a shame LucasArts decided their graphical adventures simply weren't cost effective!
Have you ever tried Starship Titanic? It came out in 1998. (I'd post my review, but it's long off-loaded onto disk, and I don't feel like scanning hardcopy.) The story was by Douglas Adams, which means there are some wonderfully satirical touches, and some sadistically difficult puzzles. It's a very nice 3D environment, and a good game if you don't mind biting your fingernails down to the second knuckle.

Thanks for recommending that I finish TLJ. I've had it installed for some time. You've made me eager to restart and take it all the way, through time.
On other matters, you ever tried Patrician III, Taltamir? It's sort of a cross between a late medieval trading sim, and simcity. You trade dozens of goods between Hansa towns, but you can also build dozens of kinds of businesses, fight pirates, become a pirate, rise to the post of mayor, do a bunch of missions for the Hansa leader, become the Hansa leader, do more missions, deal with mercenary invasions and attacks by irate princes on cities where you work, take out loans and offer loans, send convoys to explore new lands, etc. Difficult to master, but a lot of fun to play.
