Which game gave you the best first impression?
My choice is Morrowind, though it MAY change when I get R:TW and Myst IV.
I was astounded when I first played Morrowind. The time in the ship wasn't so great, but as soon as I went outside, I actually Wowed at the graphics.
The graphics engine was already dated when I got it, but the way Morrowind presented it was simply astounding. I looked at the surrounding, the water ... coming together in an awesome view. The voice actings were superb too, at the beginning at least.
Other games which game me great first impressions include AOK, Civ 3, and AOW2, though AOW2 was for sounds rather than graphics.

The evil nature of GameBanshee revealed below!
GameBanshee sells Xandax to make ends meet
Then, as if that was not enough, they decide to get rid of me via sweepstakes as well

Me, it would have to be...
- The Final Fantasy games. Over the years, they have offered some pretty solid gameplay, and a rather enriching environment. This especially goes for Final Fantasy IV, VI, and VII.
- Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn. Greatest character depth of all. Also, this game is what eventually got me into Dungeons & Dragons.
- The Temple of Elemental Evil. The Party Alignment concept is pretty original in itself for a Dungeons & Dragons game. Great graphics, too!

Except for Baldur's gate you mean?
I'd have to say, Tomb Raider. I was actually bummed when I finished the game. When I first played it, the graficks were good, but played sooo nice. It was so free and different from games before it. The huge climbing levels just blew me away.

Darklands, from 1992. First, they created a mythos based, not on imitating cheesy D&D stuff, but out of the genuine late medieval legends and belief patterns of the German States. Second, their research was incredible: the names of alchemy potion creators, for example, are the supposed authors of surviving alchemical treatises of the period, or the heroes of magical tales from same. Third, they created a character design system that has yet to be matched, IMO. Fourth, they included features in which they were either the first to do so (such as pausing time in a dungeon, entering commands for each party member, then resuming), or the only (such as watching the way many interactive incidents on the road changed in character as your reputation rose).
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
Darklands...Well, you've piqued my interest. I'm looking it up right now.
For me, there are a few, but one sticks out more than the rest.
Quest for Glory IV: Shadows of Darkness
From the opening theme I knew I was about to play something incredible.
The excitement, the giddiness, the uncontrollable smiling, the constant "Woah"-ing started with the moody theme song.
Those feelings turned out to be most true. It was a very heartfelt game.
A great story which, you must understand, carried over from three previous, excellent games. Great characters and the best graphics style ever -- VGA!! -- made for a nearly perfect game.

Well Mario Bros... 5 minutes into the game and you can't stop. Also Warcraft 3, mainly because of the incredible cinematics you watch at the beginning of the game is the reason behind that. Maybe some other games...
I kill two dwarves in the morning, I kill two dwarves at night. I kill two dwarves in the afternoon, and then I feel alright. I kill two dwarves in time of peace and two in time of war. I kill two dwarves before I kill two dwarves, and then I kill two more.
I may be bad, but I feel good.

Was one of my favorites, and was never able to finish it...

Well, its so hard to choose...
Id probably go with the very original Mortal Kombat game... for the consule that is.
Or dune 2....
Or homeworld (for its controls)....
Or unreal tournament (still the best shooter, much better then its successors UT2003 and 2004 and all the quakes)
Or Spellforce or Age of Wonders or kohan or Freelancer (for its controls)... etcetcetc.
See I am just a sucker for a revolutionary game... All those were the first or the best amoung the first few of their kind (except for UT, which was best of the kind when the janre finally matured, most of the original shooters just werent as fun as newer ones today). Or they had something really new and awesome going for them. In each of those games I immidiatly noticed what those things are, I immidialty began to enjoy them, and I immidiatly knew that I am gonna be a fan for many many years to come. When I get a hobby, I go about it with a passion, I played and owned thosands of games, I read tens of thousands of books (I counted over various periods of time and estimated, downwards, the amounts I have gone through), I watched countless movies... and in my stint with japanimation I managed to completely cover 30 years of culture in my first year (i only took 14 hours a day, give or take... 18 on summer vacations and holidays). I also have good memory, that resulted in me almost NEVER, EVER, going back to redo/replay/rewatch/etc something I finished... Yet I did for all of these games, its the mark of excellence, there are some books I read several times, there are some games I played through several times. Those are the ones that are truely awesome.
