The Bag of Holding - what I do and don't know
The Bag of Holding - what I do and don't know
Or think that I know, anyway.
Okay, so I've done almost all the Chapter 2 side-quests by trading everyone in and out, and am about to depart for Spellhold. Before I go, I want to know, is there a place in SoA (with ToB installed) where I can buy or earn a Bag of Holding? I'm trying to keep my cheese to a minimum, so I don't want to ShadowKeep one in (and never even figured out how to use CLUA).
And anyway, when you SK one in, I KNOW that the next one you get will be the "same" bag - i.e. you have all the same stuff in both, a bug that makes them one and the same. So far, I've BOUGHT all my gem bags, and this has not happened with them. (But it DID happen when I only had one and SK'd in another... So to my mind it's a SK/CLUA issue: when you're "honest" - right, like I've never cheesed, please - you don't have this problem.)
(Of course I make it more cheesy once I have one by using the EoU mod, too. I know, I'm a hypocrite. )
So, uh, bottom-line question is - can I find a bag of holding in SoA (with ToB installed) before leaving for Spellhold? Any and all help will be much appreciated - thanks!

You can't. You'll find one in Spellhold
It is arguably the greatest item in the game for a solo character.
However I don't understand what you mean in your second paragraph.
What I think you mean is that when you SK in a bag, it was full of stuff already. Now when you start a game in ToB you begin with this bag, so you have Sk'd in that bag, not an empty one. It is a common error which I made as well.
Of course, I knew you started with this bag, so it wasn't a problem for me.
If that wasn't what you meant, then I am clueless

Hey Asriel, thanks for the quick response - even if it wasn't the news I wanted!
What I mean is this - the last time I played, I SK'd in a Bag of Holding, and then found one in the game. When I put the second one in my inventory, and opened it up, all the stuff that was already in the first one (that I already had), was in the new one, too. Even when the two different Bags of Holding were in two different character's inventories - say, one in the PC's and the other in Jaheira's - they still had all the same stuff.
In a way it was handy - I could put something in one place and take it out in the other - so if the PC was frozen and Jaheira needed something from the Bag, no problem. On the other hand, it meant that you only had the one Bag's slots to use, no matter how many Bags you ended up with after getting one from SK.
I found the same problem with gem bags and scroll boxes from SK - once I got a "real" one from the game itself, the new ones were full of whatever had been in the SK one - even though the SK one was still full of whatever I put in there. BUT it's not like I got doubles - I could only pull one of each item out - once it was out in one inventory, that's where it was, and the other bag no longer had it.
Does that make sense?
Anyway, thanks! Back to the game, without a Bag of Holding... for now!

I have never heard of such an incident before, but maybe someone else has?
Sorry I couldn't bring you the news you wanted morgan. Although I don't see Sk-ing in a bag of holding as cheating, since you most likely had one at the end of BG1 Especially not as s solo character, as you will be in a constand need for more slots.

Heyo - I went down to WK as you suggested, me0w, but didn't find a vendor offering the Bag. I only spoke with one vendor, though, so if there's more than one, maybe I missed them. But the "official" vendor to whom you're referred by the Knights didn't have one.
So I got the one in the Asylum maze, but wouldn't mind having another - I have a LOT of gems I'm carting around for Cespenar's use later!

You can also pick up a gem bag or two to hold the gems, which'll free up the bag of holding for everything else.
BTW - note that the quantity the bag of holding can carry is not affected by stacking ... i.e: 50 Arrows+1 will actually take up 50 slots in your bag. So it's a good idea to throw things like that into someone's Ammo slot instead (doesn't matter whether they actually use a bow or not).

@ glenfar - that's EXACTLY why I want to get another Bag - because I have kept literally EVERY gem I've ever found/earned/stolen so far! I'm pretty sure I didn't need to keep ALL of them, but since I didn't know for sure which ones Cromwell and Cespenar would want to use, I figured, why not hold on to 'em?
I have the "unlimited Bag" mod installed, but even that has a limit - I was just afraid I was about to bump up against it. (But no ammo goes in the Bag - I learned that lesson a few passes through the game ago...)

Item code
I'll answer the question that didn't look like was answered... The reason two Bags of Holding would have the same stuff is if they both have the same item code... When you go into SK, you'll actually see quite a few Bags of Holding... If you create two of the same type (e.g. "bag04"), then they are linked to the same "store" where things are stored...
I don't know if I'm saying this clearly, but that's the reason... The same thing happens if you have identical Gem Bags or Scroll Cases...

Well, you certainly don't need to keep all of them, just the more unique ones. If you want a full list of the 'normal' things needed (not including mods like Item Upgrade), I believe this is complete:
Rogue Stone x3
Beljuril
Diamond x2
Emerald
Ruby
Sapphire
King's Tear x2
Star Sapphire x5
Scroll of Protection from Normal Weapons
Scroll of Invisibility
Scroll of Improved Haste

@ stramoski - you know, I knew that there was a good explanation - BUT I can't have just randomly chosen the exact same one every single time I've used SK.
I think that either I had the weirdest string of choosing the exact same Bag each time - for both the Bag of Holding and gem bags - in which case I should have headed straight for Vegas - OR, more likely, they're all coded indentically in SK. Now that could be wrong, too - but every time I've used SK, that's what happened. No big deal, I can live with it - but I seriously doubt that I somehow managed to select the very same one each and every time I tried...
@ glenfar - I appreciate your help with the list, but I DO have item upgrade installed, and it was REALLY buggy when I went to see Cromwell. It gave me some dialogue from ToB, in fact, in addition to all the items listed out! But I'm muddling through, it's working out okay.

this is true if they both have the same ID. the newest version of the game has like 31 different bag of holding IDs. so yes if u have 2 people with the bag of holding ID 1 then they will have the same items in them. this can actually be used as cheese to swap items tween people who are very far away from each other.
EDIT: sorry i didnt realize stramoski had pretty much said what i just said and there is no delete button
