Resistance - how does it work?

Post by rumagent »

Does it reduce damage? (50% resistance = half damage) or do you have a chance of avoiding damage? (50% resistance = 50% chance of avoiding damage).

it means a chance for a spell effect to fizzle on you..but some spells ignore resistances..like imprison

If it says magic resistance = 50%, then it means that 50% of the time, magics cast at u will have no effect ( u have "resisted" any effect )

If it says magic damage resistance = 50%, all magic damaging spells ( like fireball ) have their damage done to u reduced by 50%

So MR affects whether u get affected by the spell, MDR affects how much damage u get from a damaging spell

Hope it helps

thought you meant magical resistance

elemental resistances reduce damage, and if you have over 100% you get healed!

Ok I get it... I don't understand why resistance at 100+ would heal you. It is a bug is it not?

It's just the logical reverse of less than 100% elemental resist

50% resistance in elements = 50% less damage
100% res = 100% less damage = 0 damage
150% res = 150% less damage ( illogical, how can u reduce a damage to negative damage )
Unless the negative damage turns into positive healing
Therefore the logical thing is 50% of damage becomes life

I think that's it...Someone plz correct me if i am wrong in the reasoning

I think your right. The calculation probably looks something like this:

damage * ((100-resist)/100)

Damage being a negative integer. That would account for the healing part, anyways.

I think damage resistance over 100% just takes the damage to 0 and stops there, but I'll have to test it out. If it heals it could actually mage the shapeshifer with natural 50% resistance to just about everything useful...not too hard to start at a natural 50% and wind up over 100%.
