I have started a Planescape game a couple of times, but I can't seem to get through the early stages of the game. I can see it has a lot of potential, but I really don't have a single clue on how to start. It's just to much for me to handle in the beginning. I have accepted several quest, but they all include fights I cannot win. And I want to play as a mage, but since you can't start off as one, I get killed all the time, because of my loosy stats  . I could start with more fighter-oriented stats, but that takes they idea away of being a mage...
First, go into the southeastern city quadrant. That's directly south of you. It's main drag is a circle, so proceed south then east, very quickly. As soon as you turn east, begin looking for a door to the north. It's the tavern; get inside.

One of the habituees will be happy to join your party. Don't leave him out: he's got excellent fighting skills, an enchanted weapon, and some good secondary magic skills, too. That should make things easier for you.

And in a battle, don't forget Morte's taunting skills. If you don't mind pausing the game a lot, you can effectively keep one or two enemies engaged in chasing Morte, while the rest of your group concentrate on everybody else.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
