Well, right now my drow monk is just finishing the bridge in chapter one. Everything is really easy. I just waltz into fights, go after the biggest bad guy, and nobody even comes close to killing me. I suppose that I will start to have to use some sort of strategy when enemies become good enough to start hitting me. Well, that's all.
And the Cosmic AC said, "LET THERE BE LIGHT!"
Well, it's been a while since last I played (just got GTA San Andreas! )
But the last thing I did was the first level of the ice temple. And let me tell you, the battles are longer and longer now, especially when I meet people with good damage resistance. They can't harm me, but I can almost not harm them (unless on a critical hit) but still it's doable.
My monk is now lvl 11 (almost lvl 12) and I am now using fists as my main weapon. With those she have 3 attacks per round.
If this ramorhaz you talk about is the queen, then I really didn't have to much of a problem with her. first I was surprised by them (it's been quite some time since the last time I played the game, so I didn't know where they was) I had about 50 % health (because of those bloody ice spikes that come every time I open a door) and was kinda taken by surprise, and quickly killed.
After a reload and a rest. I walked back in, ready for battle, I took out the other guys first before before moving on to the queen herself, who fell within a reasonable amount of time.
Now I had quite a problem with our litte Dragon lady. I was almost unable to damage her, (don't know why, I tried all damage types I had) but at the end she fell from all my exploding potions.
What was really fun was the attack on the ranger village, I casted blur and mirror image, and none of them were able to tuch me. Plus, the favorite spell of the druids seems to be entangle, which I am completly immune to due to the nice boots I have (and if I hadn't had them I still would be immune due to the saves she have) It was great
But it is getting kind of hard now, I am seriously thinking of introducing a wild elf sorcerer to the story (but only if I am unable to continue) I have a quite good one with almost all the disabeling spells from another game, she is about lvl 13 I think. What do you guys think? (guys means girls as well Brynn )

...good news - still alive !
I'm little surprised about the remorhaz fight - not sure if the ice-tempel ones are weaker then the BS ones...
...but I had extensive fights with the BS remorhazs and they always hit even my drow melee MC-fighter with AC40+ and they always do fire damage (SR doesn't seem to work against) and they do a good amount of damage per hit (I've seen sometimes more then 100 HP per hit) - and your monk shouldn't have more then 130 HP at level 13 !
...and remorhaz have a good AC and lots of HP !
...and your monk should have a worse AC and do less damage per hit/round then my level 11 melee MC-fighter with all buffs...-...and in BS he never had a chance!
...did you really fight the remorhaz in melee - (which difficult level do you play? - have you used potions? - do you have items you shouldn't have?)
I would guess that your monk needs at least 15 to 20 rounds to kill one - and you shouldn't survive many more then 4 or 5 rounds in melee after your MI is ripped off (another 2 or 3 rounds)!
...could you give me some details concerning equipment & tactics ?

I play on normal (core?) rules, I don't have any items I shouldn't have.
I think I evaded the fire dmg or something like that (improved evasion and great reflex saves) and I think my enemies killed themselvs quite a bit as well, the frost mages seems awfully fond area affect cold dmg spells like the snowball swarm, and cone of cold.
I am sorry, but I don't recall that battle too well, but I don't think it was too bad.
My main tactic is to run into a fight and quickly kill the person (creature) which I think has the best chance of damaging me. Then I mop up the rest, starting with any spellcasters.
If I find a difficult battle I usually buff with my innate abilities, my items (e.g the ring of mage armor) and maybe I drink a potion or two if I think it is necessary. I almost never sell potions, and thus I have 3 potion bags in my inventory. (plus a bag of holding, three gem bags and two scroll cases)
If I buff pre-battle, then I always kill anyone who is able to cast dispel first, e.g mages and clerics.

Well as for adding sorcerer.. if you like roleplaying elements.. you could add him/her when you save some prisoners.. or when you some adventuring NPC's... highlight there is one of this type are in inside Icepalace.. next one would be in Wandering vilage.. then next one would be when you meet Mezro warriors.. or in dragons eye some other prisoners
Well i must say that i admire little bit your monk only ''game''.. personally i would never try that.. even if you would find out that it work's realy nice..
Mainly becuse i just dislike wizards and monks..
But you could try something harder and add pure bard to your party.. or some variation.
So good luck to you..
And some off topic talk.. Highlight to see..
Is San Andreas realy worth buying? Well i am going to buy it anyway.. but some info might be helpfull though.. but it takes way too long time to get it on PC

san andreas is definetly the best gta so far, it's immense, it's like 3 to 4 times bigger than vice city. It's something like morrovind, only set in modern usa, and with a whole lot more crime. If you liked the other gtas you'll love san andreas.
If anyone else have anymore questions about gta just PM me
Okay enough spam, let's get back on topic.

Wrath, I always thought you had a party full of spellcasters! Or do you have sorceres and clerics only?
As for the monk, I don't know why you're all so pessimistic about it. Monk is one of the most interesting classes in the game, imho! Rare to meet, especially in IWD.
Winter, let us know how you proceed!

What difficulty level are you playing on? How did you go against the Ice Golems? Those things do much damage and have good damage resistance.
What sort of damage does your Deep Gnome do?

I play on normal, the ice golem was piece of cake, I just hit them with my blunt fists untill they died, they were never able to touch me. My monk does normally blunt dmg with her fists, but she is also quite good with an axe (2 points) which does slashing dmg. She can also use short swords for piecing dmg should the need arise. I kept the moon blade of selune just in case I have to do magic dmg as well.
Of course, if you would have read my privious posts, you would have known what difficulty I play on, and which weapon I use

I have read your earlier posts. What I meant was how much damage soes your small monk do with fists? I understand that small monks do less than medium sized characters. I also know that you use a Greataxe as a secondary weapon.
I also know you are playing in normal mode as no 1st level character could make it this far in HoF. What I meant is what difficulty of Normal mode are you playing on. the default is of course Nomal difficulty, but you can increase this to Hard or Insane. I've only ever played Normal mode on Insane difficulty, so what I have found to be true may be different to your experience if you are playing on Normal difficulty. If you have never changed the difficulty level it will be normal.
I found the Ice Golems difficult as they were able to deal out quite alot of damage quickly and could take some serious hits.

Bard 26/Fighter 4.. i just love that class mix... human..
Cleric of Oghma.. Aasimar.. those domain spell are going to be quite helpfull...
And Sorcerer.. dual wielding shortswords.. with all proper feats.. going to be full sorcerer..

@Azriel: I still don't understand how you get an AC with your DG monk that remorhazs and golems can't hurt you!
Assuming you have 20 DEX and 20 WIS right from the start away and increase DEX to 22 when levelling up !
with the DG +4AC and the +2 AC from the monk you get:
10 basic
04 DG
02 monk
06 DEX
05 WIS
01 Dodge
----------
28 alltogether
AFAIK the only AC increasing items you could find/buy until Icetempel are:
- ring of protection +2
- bracers +2
- did I miss anything ?
you get on AC 32
as monk you can't use any armor or shield, nor wands or scrolls and there aren't that many potions of shield and mage armor !!!
and even when you use shield and mage armor you have an AC 43 and my melee drow with an higher AC gets hit 80% of the time by remorhazs - even when using blur you should get hit at least every 2nd round after MI is ripped off !
EDIT: I forget dodge +1 (don't know if you have this feat) - expertise isn't available with INT 3

...thanks for all that info !
but still don't understand how your monk survives melee against a remorhaz with AC 34 and 99 HP
AFAIR a remorhaz has at least AB ~30+ (can't rememberexactly) and 2 attacks per round...
means at least 75% of the 1st attacks and 50% of the 2nd attack will hit you !
so you should get approx. 5 hits in 4 rounds
...with MI you can avoid the 1st ~5 attacks - so the 1st 4 rounds you should be save...
without having any damage-reduction and on normal difficulty it will deal at least between 20 and 30 HP damage per hit without any crits !
...as an average value - your 99 HP monk should be dead after 4 (MI) + 4 (99HP) = 8 rounds !
and I don't think that you can kill a remorhaz with less then 12 to 15 rounds with a monk !
