I am in chapter 3 currently and have enough quests to last a month of game time. I would like to finish them all, but of course it wouldn't be very nice to go off adventuring and leave Imoen with Irenicus the whole time. Besides, I intend to bring Imoen back into the party when I find her and it would be nice to bring her along for these quests. So here is my question: if I set off in search of her now, will I be able to come back and finish all these quests?
I made the mistake of moving on to quickly in PS:Torment, and missed some quest because I thought I could come back to them. Wrong.
When to end chapters?
When to end chapters?
Then darkness took me, and I strayed out of thought and time

You'll have time a lot later (Ch. 6) to do all of the Athkatla quests if you want. Personally, I'd do about half before and half after. If you do too many before, then your characters are too powerful for the main story line (and Imoen doesn't get much experience). If you do them all after, then the main story line is pretty tough.
