halflings
Halflings have been around for a long time in a number of forms. In AD&D they are the race of small people that look like humans, just more 'rumbly tumbly'. Not sure what Gynax modeled them after but I always kind envisioned them as Tolkien's Hobbits. Pretty much the same mannerisms.
The Halfling guide has more information about them if you are interested.

A 2nd edition AD&D product, issued by TSR, now Wizards of the Coast. "The complete Halfling handbook." Not of much use unless you plan on playing some pen and paper AD&D... which I highly recommend, if you can find a decent group of gamers to play with!
If you just want general info on halflings or their lifestyle, our D&D halflings are based upon Tolkien's hobbits.(As mentioned in a previous post) If you enjoy the fantasy game play in BG2, you should definitely check out Tolkien's "The Hobbit" and "The lord of the rings"... classics in the fantasy genre.

I gess he means "The compleat Book of Humanoids"
I have the lord of the rings and there is stated that the name comes from
Half-well half.
Ling-that comes from antient english Lang=long.
Half Long
AD&D used the race in the game and keep the name.
P.S. I din´t Know that there is a "compleat book of halflings"
