Malta, you've got it right...There are no yellow, orange or teal lightsaber colors in SW, so blue and green really are NORMAL...
Actually, I meant "normal-sized lightsabers", but thanks for the compliment anyway.

I like a single saber or a double-bladed one. When I do single saber I use the Mantle of the Force, and when I use the double-bladed saber I use Heart of the Guardian. What's with the color preferences anyway?

I don't know about you guys, but I tended to use Red for my primary lightsabers (I went dual), but I used alternate colors for my specialty sabers (the ones with bonuses against droids, or Sith, etc). That made it a lot easier in my inventory to find the one I wanted when I had to switch around; I didn't have to read the attributes. I just equipped the Red ones when I was killing people, the Blue(?) ones against droids... you get the idea.

That worked until I finished the Trandoshans on the station and got the uber-crystals, though. Then, the colors didn't match each other, but neither did they match anything else in my inventory! LOL

Lightsaber Preferance

Heh, I have to say there's a lot to be said for two violet colored lightsabers. Shortsaber in the offhand. But unfortunately, once I get the special sabers crystals, they don't stay violent.

The setup that I've favored the most thus far has been duel sabers, short in the offhand, reg in the strong hand. Regular saber I had set up with the Heart of the Guardian, Using a Krayt dragon pearl, and a Solari crystal as the support. Makes my reg lightsaber have stats of:

Damage: 4-34 Energy
Critical: 19-20,x2
Attack Mod: +5
Blaster Blot Deflection: +4

The shortsaber in my off hand has Mantle of the Force as the base crystal, with Sigil and Damind supporting, giving it the following stats of:

Damage: 4-21 Energy
Critical: 19-20,x2
Attack Mod: +3
Force Regeneration: +2

If anyone has any combinations that they think are better, let me know. Always interested in trying new combos.

Sabers R Us

I always use two light sabers (blue and purple) So i can put in more power crystals and because i found these two crystals that really increase damage and have a 25% chance of stunning opponents (one of these crystals in each saber) So why not have two sabers that can stun opponents and can have two crystals each. :)
from what i've read and researched,

offense-double bladed
defense-single blade

so can you switch sabres in battle? or before an encounter? it seems to me that for the soldier counselor pc i am planning, emphasis on melee and force powers, that if you can switch between two sabres, you've got it made...best of all, you can drop two weapon feats, and concentrate on power attack, flurry route. :p
Single blade allows the 'use' of the Dueling feats which, when maxed out, give +3 to attack and defense. A single blade with dueling feats is frequently recommended for Consulars, who traditionally rely more upon usage of their force powers then their lightsabers/

You can switch sabers in mid-battle

If you use a doublebladed saber you only need to put in one crystal and it works as if you were using it in two sabers. Then you can put the other crystal into another doublebladed saber, give that to one of your fellow Jedi and then it is as if you had 4 (four) sabers with that crystal.
A doublebladed also does more damage then two sabers, so not only are your crystals put to better use, you also get to do more damage.

The strength of dual sabers is that you can use four different crystals, creating two totally different sabers.

actually for pc the best for a consular is two blades, because with heart of the guardian and mantle of the force and damnid crystals you can get up to +5 force regeneration, which combined with the huge force pool you should have amounts to near inexhaustible force points.

Mhh, a Consular already has an enormous amount of forcepoints to use. I never ran out of them with my Consulars, or even Sentinels. Still, a force-spamming consular that doesn't engage in combat a lot could do that. I imagine you could even build one that focusses it's combat on single blade with dueling, yet uses this regeneration combo (in the offhand) when not directly engaged in melee combat. When you are forced to use the saber, just unwield the regeneration blade and fight single-bladed with a high damage/attack saber.

Idk...I'm going on beating the game a 5th time through and the past 4 times I've had dual lightsabers both regulars...I loved it because I could have two totally different aspects covered with two lightsabers. I could have a lightsaber for against dark jedi...(with solari) and one just for damage...Anyways there are all different types, but this time through I'm going through again I tried using one lightsaber as an LS consular because the last time as a consular I never really used my two lightsabers much. And it's going fairly well...I advise you that wield only one to get master flurry, it's very helpful imo and get the master feat for one lightsaber.

Just to add my preference

I prefer double wield too. One lightsaber is too defensive for me. I had a single wielder with Critical Strike till level 12. i could not bring myself to carry on.

I prefer the double blades to a long and a short to save those good crystals. Blaster deflection is something i dun bother. Blasters never killed any of my builds. The Nextor combo is another I gave up on. Critical Strike is not for me in kotor. I prefer the +3 attacks, the Sigil, the Solaris and those rare ones. The dragon pearl is a real keeper too. My party members determine my choice of crystals too. I tend to use a team of 3 Jedis. So i need all the good crystals I can get. Therefore, double bladed sabers help me achieve that.

Colours... I think I use to differentiate whose lightsaber is whose... hard to see who is swinging what when in a frenzy. So it's my rule never to use red. Hate to have to see "Miss" and dunno which one of my team members was the culprit.

Tend to use green for the old man, yellow for bastila, blue for catwoman and purple for my PC.
In the end, everything will be alright. If it is not alright, it is not the end.

I liked the variety of effect you could achieve through double-wielding. Typically, one of my weapons was optimized for crits, the other being more specific to the kind of opponent I was facing.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

I like heart of the guardian on main hand with solari upari huge damage, and the mantle of the force on the other hand with krayt dragon pearl and rubat (crazy +3 force regen) Two weapons also allows for stacking of certain stats like blaster deflection (which you can get to above 20).

So far..

My experience on the xbox version (without the yavin upgrade... so no heart of the guardian or mantle of the force here) has generally been that the krayt dragon pearl combined with the Opila crystal created the most powerful (7-21 for normal sized or 7-25 for double bladed) saber that I've used. I know about the various modifiers vs droid, critical strike, etc. but I think the differences become too varied and I don't typically swap out sabers frequently in the game- it just gets too hard to decide "well this is a droid filled room so I'd better have these crystals in this saber" when it's easier to just use disable/stun/destroy droid force power, lob an ion grenade, or just use what you've already got. I've generally not seen that the specialization possible in the game is that noticeable. I used a krayt/opilia double bladed purple saber and it was quite effective though I did master double weapons instead of dueling.

1 thing I ought to do is experiment with the manaan double items trick and see how effective 2 sabers with the aforementioned combo fares compared to the double bladed saber.

Always twin sabers! has to be, it looks cool and you get more crystals.
I always go for 2 red. (LS or DS)
I have all my sabers colour coded, and ordered.
1x green single for Jolee
1x yellow double bladed for Bastilla
2x Blue for Juhani
and I keep the Poison blade and Baccas blade handy for people with energy shields.
I keep a Violet saber primed for droids too.
My Crystal pref is a combo of the Bondar(stun is great) Sigil, Krayt pearl and Upari I think it was.
Aside from early in the game I cant recall using anything but destroy droid on droids. Except maybe Marko Ragnos tomb. That is a hard slog if you go into it as a DS guardian with Canderous and Zaalbar!! when you forget to take Jolee!!!
That kid is on the escolator again!

My personal favourite combo is two full length sabers, one red (mainhand) outfitted with Sapith and Upari crystals, one violet (offhand) , with Sapith and Sigil crystals. With this combo, even if your character has terrible chance to hit when dual wielding, the attack bonuses will always boost it enough to greatly increase the chance to hit.

At level 20 and 32 (including gear)srength, here were the my attack stats:

Mainhand: +34 to hit, 9-42 damage
Offhand: +32 to hit, 12-38 damage

If I knew how to properly snap my fingers (I just can't seem to do it :( ), that's how fast Malak would have gone down.
Get up, stand up. Come on, throw your hands up.
If you've got the feeling, Jump across the ceiling.

single or double-sided..... red, until i gain violet... violet until i gain heart of the guardian. simply because violet is the coolest color and heart of the guardian +upari and krayt dragon pearl is super effective... and i cant have 2 hearts of the guardian or 2 upari so either one blade or two-bladed...

Just to tweak the conversation a bit, what are some good early-game combinations?

By this, I mean WITHOUT using Solari, Upari, Mantle of the Force or the Heart of the Guardian. These are the most powerful crystals, but they tend to come late in the game (unless you're daring enough to tackle Korriban early on). Besdies, the Mantle and the Heart are only available in the PC version or XBox Live update, and Dark Siders can't use Solari.
