'Frequency out of range' monitor error

Post by Moonlapse »

I've seen others having this problem, so I really hope that somebody can help out with this.

I've just recently installed Bloodlines only to find that I get a 'frequency out of range' error on my monitor every time I go into the game. I've tried running it in 'safe mode', running it in 640x480 forced resolution but have had no luck.

My video card is a GeForce4mx and monitor is a MAGVIEW 19'. Does anybody know the issue here?

BNC signal

I had the same problem. If your using your monitor on a BNC connection the game messes up the freq's bad. Switch to the good ole standard D-Sub connection and the game should launch fine. Worked for me.

good luck.
if that doesn't work, just force your monitor to override the refresh rate and set it at 60. seems to be working well for everyone else with the problem.

Yeah I forced it to override the resolution and that worked, shortly after I made this thread too, sorry. One question though. Is it possible to force the game to run in 16-bit mode? Because with my crappy set-up that would get alot more frames.

Where is the command found to override the resolution? Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I'm having a similar problem.

It may differ a little per system but its usually part of your video cards advanced settings. Consult your manual for further details.

1) Click on the Start button > Run.
2) In the box type: dxdiag
3) Click the OK button.
4) DirectX Diagnostic Tool will open
5) Click on the "More Help" tab
6) Click on the Override button
7) Select "Override Value" and enter a value in the box that your monitor can support (60 or 100), then click ok
8) Exit the dxdiag via the exit button at the bottom or the x in the upper right hand corner

One configuration file to rule them all

Sometimes the game's configuration can override the override, so that's something to check too.

Thanks all. Be real, be sober.

I believe you should be able to change the refresh rate on the monitor first, then through the dxdiag, and then the game. Make sure it's all set to about 60.
