*****SPOILER*****

I make a mage (or two if Aerie and Nalia are in your party) invisible and creep just through the door and cast Fireball as far in as possible. Run back into the room where everyone else is waiting with big swords or sharp arrows and pound them as they come through the door. Repeat until bar-b-que is ready. Serve with a liberal dollop of Umber Hulk... Tasty!

I usually try to 'reveal' only one troll at a time with a single character (hasted, in most cases) then have him chase the character back into the storage room, where my other characters await him. Then, I pound on the troll savagely until he drops, using whatever I have handy (the flaming sword that can be purchased from the Copper Coronet is nice, as is the completed Flail of the Ages). Lather, rinse, repeat, until all trolls are dead. Image

Hard battle, but you want to do this without *cheating* (taking them one at a time is cheating IMO), right? The 3rd level mage spell Melf's Minute Meteors works wonders here, as well as 2nd level mage spell Melf's Acid Arrow casted repeatedly on one troll (got to love Melf). Fireball's great for an intitial spell, before they close. 5th level mage spell hold monster also works against trolls. Summon lots of monsters as cannon fodder too. Aerial servant (6th level cleric spell) is the best. Summon spiders (4th level mage spell) is also useful at your level (and its low level so you can keep summoning them for a long time), but they die really quick. Remember to cast preparatory spells like protection from evil, haste, stoneskin, bless, etc. before the battle.

Oh, you might have already figured out the obvious, but if not, my strategy is for a mage-dominated party like mine is. My strategy works best if you have lots of mages. The Melf's Acid Arrow thing is a real killer if you have enough mages. Oh, here's another summoning tip: If you have time enough before they vanish, cast lots of protection spells on your summoned monsters, especially haste. If your party doesn't have any mages, you can just tell me to shut up.

Torgal charges very quickly--I found it helpful to cast Web, which pinions him fora while.

also one other thing, Torgal can detect you when you are invisible. (hence the dialog where he says "no one hides from torgal. i smell you, i do." or something like that.)

The main thing (IMHO) is to have a good front line (As Anatres and Hei_Mao pointed out) defense to keep the Torgal and his buddies busy wile the mages and long range fighters pelt them. If not they will be having mage soup for dinner. Image

multiple (so you've got them rolling to save vs. effects many times) web + entangle to tie down the bad guys. Then add whatever your area weapon of choice is. Fireball works well as does cloudkill. I prefer fireball as the effects are over quickly and any survivors can be knocked off with arrows/magic missiles or cast spell of free action + haste on tank and go hack the remaining baddies to mush.

I remember the first time I was there I used Hold monster for holding back Torgals buddies. This is one of those times you really can prepare so use everything you have haste, bless, summon ...

Easiest way is to use yoshimo and just set traps put your party at the stairs and move just close enuf for torgal to attack but the trolls dont... then run... torgal should die just from trap damage( u need about 4 traps)

What the hell

Ive battled this guy over and over, trying out some of these stratagies. Im new to this game so bear with me.
1. Difficulty is at it's lowest
2. I don't have cloudkill, and most of the rest that are mentioned. I have bless, hold creature etc. No haste.
3. I've tried luring them out one at a time, and all three eventually come anyway.

What the heck am I supposed to do? This is getting stupid.

Just remember IM A NOOB so I wont know everything here. So explain what ur talking about please??

If you want a detailed description of what to do, we need to know you options. What NPCs do you have, what levels do you have, what spells do you have, etc etc. There's no real "I-win-button" like they all die instantly if you say "Ní" to them. Need to know what we've got to work with here. ^^

But if you have it, I'd recommend the classical combination of Stone Skin, Mirror Image and Fireshield. Tank (send in first so they'll attack him) with this guy, cast Haste on your entire party and just start chopping them. Take notice of when your tank drops his defenses and re-cast them.

Also, make sure you have all of your characters hitting on the same guy, preferably Thorgal's buddys before Thorgal himself, since they all have a nasty regeneration. If you're lowlevel it'll be a long battle, so keep recasting your defenses and don't be afraid to run away or gulp down a few healing potions if needed.

Here are a few suggestions.

If Yoshimo is in your party, you can try to set traps before you attack Tor'Gal. Skull Trap and Glyph of Warding serve the same purpose if you have them. Have the rest of your party stay behind the door that leads to the room. Put the traps between you and the trolls.

Stay in the adjacent room, and only send one character into the room with the trolls to get their attention. Lead them back to your party. Have your most heavily armored party members block the door so the trolls cannot attack your weaker party members. Have your weaker party members stand back and use missile weapons or spells. There is plenty of ammo inside the Keep.

Tor'Gal can detect invisible party members when they first approach him (he says he can smell you), but I don't know if he can detect invisible characters after that. If you can make one character invisible, you can try to block the door and have the rest of your party attack with missile weapons. If invisibility works, then turn off AI and do not let your invisible party member attack the trolls, or else he/she will become visible and be attacked by the trolls. The idea is to keep the trolls from attacking any of your party members. If invisibility doesn't work, then try something else.

Summoned monsters can serve a similar purpose, except you will be using them to attack the trolls and absorb all of the trolls' attacks while the rest of your party is out of harm's way. This is a legitimate tactic, not cheese (enemy Mages do it all the time).

As Thrifalas said, if you can tell us what you've got, we can give you better advice.

I often use a similar strategy to VonDondu to lead them into a trap. (Not a thief kind of trap) I cast cloudkill and then get someone who is hasted and protected from its effects to lead them into the cloud, shutting the door in their faces so that they stay in the middle of the cloud. They don't have the intelligence to go away and come back again after the cloud has dissipated.
This weakens them sufficiently to deal with them using standard methods.
The ordinary trolls need to be killed off with fire. One arrow when they are almost dead is sufficient. For those playing without archers, some other form of flame will do the trick. Flamesword, flamestrike, oil of fiery burning, flame arrow, necklace of missiles, etc. etc.
However as others have already said, there is not a "correct" way of doing it.
A solo thief could use boots/oil of speed, backstab, run away, hide, backstab etc, using some kind of fire potion for the coup de grace.
Just use your imagination.

Having just done this side quest I found Vondudus method to work great.. place snares in the room leading up to the door, buff up, send in a big tank to draw them back, block the door so they cant all get through. Oh, and i think torgal is immune to normal weapons so I cast strength on yoshimo (he has a katana +1) which seemed to work well. It was still a reletively tough fight and I did have my mages running away from them like headless chickens towards the end, lol. The traps do a fair amount of damage though.

with the wands from Irenicus' dungeon, you can pay for a recharge (or sell and steal them back at the thieves' guild) - so you have a choice of wand tactics - I prefer setting up a cloudkill trap with entangle/web and having a hasted character lure them into the cloud and slam the door behind me.
sometimes I do the same without the cloud and block the door with my best tank and have the others use missiles. if you have a healer standing by or plenty of potions, the tank should outlast the trolls. remember to equip with acid or fire arrows. better still, go to WK and buy Firetooth.
