Verdict?

Post by The Great Hairy »

So what's the feeling about the game guys? Worth getting? Avoid like the plague? (It's not out here - Australia - until the 25th.)

My main concerns are:
1) Combat - turn based? Point & click?
2) Immersion - are we talking Planescape Torment or Diablo 2?

Thanks for your input!

Cheers all,
TGHO

The game is good, but it isn't what I would call a hardcore RPG - sort of an RPG-lite, though nowhere near as bad as Diablo 2, while also not being as full of reams and reams of boring text and bland areas as Planescape Torment.

Combat is neither here nor there really, the closest thing I can think of is Gran d Theft Auto with blood disciplines. It's closer to an adventure than an RPG imo, mainly problem solving and story rather than combat tactics of any sort.

I thought problem solving was a part of RPG.

I'd say a combination of RPG and FPS.

1. Combat
Combat is like in GTA (good example) just move in the direction you want to attack, and click.
You dont need any FPS (First Person Shooter) skills for the game. I dont have any, and havent had any problems with the Vampire combat system.
No pausing in combat, but you will get the hang of it in no time. No special reflex skills needed, I suck at FPS's but i havent had any problem with Vampire.

2. Kind of game
It's a good story driven RPG with a very good experience system (quest experience) and for most quests with more then 2 options to solve your problem. At the moment I find it more RPG then KotOR or Baldur's Gate(2) but i havent finished the game.

I strongly disagree with Radijs, in a FPS it's about reflexes, jumping and aiming. Those skills arent needed to play Vampire.
I do not have the touch, nor do I have the power.

Yeah, well this is a bit of a sore point for me. The definition of RPG has blurred a lot over the last decade or so. Some of the stuff they are calling RPG's at the moment are nothing but adventure games. Technically, but this definition the Monkey Island adventure series could be considered an RPG because you take on the role of Guybrush Threepwood.

The Roleplaying genre has diluted significantly since the days of SSI's gold-box AD&D games.

Haha, no, I didn't understand - I just hated Planescape Torment. I really tried to like it and wanted to like it - I liked the world it created, but I didnt like the characters, NPCs and repetitive nature of the game. I could respect it for what it was, but it just wasnt for me.
