If you, like many other people, are having big lag and chopiness problems, and load times of more than 5 minutes (real time) there is only one way to fix it.
Buy some more RAM! The minimum specification suggests 512mb - but the game runs perfectly with 1gb.
It's worth doing, and you will definately notice a massive difference with this, and probably other games and programs too. You can get an extra 512mb of ram for $30-50. The price of a game!.

I have fixed the VAST majority of my choppiness issues by simply increasing the page file size on my computer. When I was having problems, my page file was only between 768-1528 MB. I quintupled that across multiple drives and only after playing for many hours (4+) straight will I start to get any choppiness.
A word of warning though: When I originally reallocated my page file off of the system hard drive, I encountered the loss of sync problem. To make sure things would work, I performed the common workaround (hard setting the refresh rate to something between 60-100 Hz; I did 75 Hz) both through dxdiag and the Nvidia setting for the screen size I was playing the game at. After that, I had no video sync problems and the game runs very smoothly now.
