Unseeing Eye- Lower Reaches
Unseeing Eye- Lower Reaches
hey people...1st day here & posting this for the 1st time hehe.
okay, so i have this problem. i went to the down the the Pit Of Faithless & cant go back up anymore & will have to use the stairs at the Lower Reaches(Unseeing Eye Lair). the problem is before i enter the temple where u can find alot of Diseased One there, it took me 2 webs, 2 MMissle & 2 CKill to kill 2 Gauths & a Beholder. I came to the Lower reaches without any protection from electric or petrification skill & I just dont know how to pass this area.
I've read the walkthrough. & one guy ONLY used Korgan, setting him in Berserk state while equiping the cloak of deflection(or something like that) to wipe out all those beholders. I know that there's plenty of treasures here...so can someone guide me through this place, without much fuss & without missing a single item?
Your help is much appreciated...thanks.

To Live Is To Die
well, the easiest thing to do is to reload from before you came in, and go get the Shield of Balduran from Diedre (in Adventurer's Mart, if you have the collector's edition.) I don't think I've ever tried to fight beholders without it, and my wife only did it once when she was really new to the game, so I don't have any other advice for you.
http://www.gamebanshee.com/baldursgatei ... eaches.php shows you where the important points in the level are. You enter on the left and the stairs out are at the bottom. There are beholders all around the "ring" around the outside, and a pack of clerics in the middle who are pretty nasty. If you can make it to the stairs out, I think you can sleep outside and come back in with a new set of spells, which you'll probably need if you don't have the shield.

You can actually get them without the collecters edition with a simple download... Right here from Gamebanshee: http://gamebanshee.com/baldursgateii/downloads.php

Well summoning spells work wonders on most of the beholder type monsters you encounter in the unseeing eye quest, since theyn place you out of the attack of the monster's fast casting abilities.
If you can use the following spells then you'll waltz through like a bowling ball through bowling pins.
Priest/Druid Spells:
Summon Fire Elemental (Extremely Effective)
Summon Undead (Fairly Effective)
Mage/Sorceror Spells:
Summon Invisible Stalker (Extremely Effective)
Summon Undead (Fairly Effective)
Summon Nishru (?)
Summon Haskshar (?)
You'll need to use a little more care in tackling the tougher versions of beholders that are stronger than Gauths since they may use deathspell and potentially unsummon your monsters; in those cases send a sacrifical victim like a dog or low level summon monster before sending your ofter monsters.

I didn't have many problems with this, but I did have the staff of the magi - this let me sneak around invisible (a thief / mage multi) and hidden with spell trap active, and then casting a spell (maybe a sunfire or something like that) and turning invisible again. Those that could actually see me would attack and their spells would get trapped bringing back my own spell memory. Those that couldn't see me were toast, and the ones that could couldn't hit me. I hope this helps!

Unfortunately it isn't always a great thing coming back to quests after you've nearly completed the game.
To tell the truth the following quests I prefer to leave to the end of Act 2 before I start them. Or complete before I go to spellbound, because generally these quests are comparitively more difficult than the other quests and some won't let you come back to recuperate if need to.
Save Haerdalis from the pocket dimension
The Planersphere
Orcs in windspear hills
Cult of the Unseeing Eye
~
Besides, if you have the staff of the Magi then you've probably got the Cloak of Reflection...

you could always munchkin it out and use your thief to plant a superfluous amount of traps to wipe things out... couple that with any of the summoning spells, staff of magi, beserk, cloak of mirroring, breach, skull trap overload, its a pretty easy fight.
I always hated gauths a lot more than beholders (silly annoying slows and lightning gah!)

well i dont agree with summoning Fire Elementals.
i summoned 2 & they just wipe it out within less than 30 secs!
its shows
'Beholder- Weapon Inaffective'
'Beholder- Cast Power Word Kill'
'Fire Elemental- Death'
if im wrong bout the power word kill by the beholder, it might be some other spell which instantly kills the my summons.
the easiest though, is having Shield of Balduran. With Korgan alone wielding that shield, i wipe all of the beholders within 10 minutes plus those priests. just 2 fireballs & a ice storm could kill em.
Again, i just wana thank you all. it made things so much simpler with the shield of balduran

greenstone amulet anyone?
I remember at first finding this fight fairly hard, however I just put on the green stone amulet and sent either Minsc or Korgan down, and they just walked through the place, it was simple. I think the second time I did the game I had a cloak of reflection that did the trick too.
I'm not sure where you get the items from (currently I have 2-3 green stone amulets, but I have LOADS of mods. - I keep getting them off of powerfull gnomes)
Check the GB walkthrough for item locations.

greenstone amulet is effeective against mindcontrol type spells that the illithid use more than beholders. Granted they work against things like charm confusion etc that mess up your party but when the imprisonment, lightning bolts and cause [Serious-Critical] wounds spells start comming your way its not gonna help you from that
As for summoning... you might wanna wear the beholder's spell repetoire down with waves of 5 lvl 3 type mobs... I generally use a wand of mob summon for that. Then summon the more powerful mobs and send them off in waves of 5... its a somewhat slower method than others but it works (and you get to see mind flayers ineffectually melee your summons cause they dont wanna waste their more powerful spell-like-effects). Summoning tactics usually arent really about quality but quantity.

I did say to use a sacrificial group first to avoid beholders unsummoning your monsters with something as simple as death spell. Besides nothing is safe when beholders and elder eyes start using imprisonment and power word kill. (though I haven't seen power word kill myself)
In the underdark I usually use:
Cloak of mirroring
Ring of Gaxx
Shield of Charm Protection
Boots of speed
On a fighter and send that into the fray

2? Only 2?... You dont wanna use less than waves of 5... the point of summoning isnt to kill beholders in one summons. Its to wear them down so eventualy all they really have left to go at your summons is melee... Then you summon your tougher monsters and have them kill the beholders.
Personally I dislike this tactic cause it takes to long, but it works.
