how to import my main character from BG1 to BG2

hi everyone.
I finally decided to leave BG1 for BG2. I went to my main character screen in BG1, hit "export" and saved it under the name of my character.
But when I try to import it on the import screen in BG2 the screen does not show my character's name (only the usual list of "fighter, cleric, mage etc") hence I can not import her. Did I miss a step on the way?
I am on a Mac OS10 btw.

I'm not on a Mac, but I suspect the answer is the same - you need to copy the character file from the BG1 "Characters" directory to the BG2 "Characters" directory first.

Are you looking at the right folder? I imagine the export from BGI would export under the BGI folder, while the BGII import defaults to looking under the BGII folder ...
