Hey folks. Very minor spoilers / walkthrough stuff below:
So I have Unfinished Business installed which has the side effect of toughening up many of the fights (for example, Kangaxx now casts improved mantle and spell trap, Torgal regenerated very quickly, more muggers are in the town and more bandits are outside in the winderness random encounters).
When I last played, before these mods, I remember having a very easy time going through the first three levels of the keep (I stopped outside Lum's machine and heading back to get Imoen), but this time I am stuck on some of the creatures in the maze level, specifically the room 3 (from the walkthrough) - the dead room with the pit fiends and other demons. I get there and the pit fiend is hasted and casts demon fear, et al, and snaps me like a twig if I fight. The only way I've been able to get past this room is by simply running through and hoping one person can make the portal on the other side before somebody dies. I know items work, but by the time I simulcrum someone else in, they are already on me, so there isn't much time to prep.
Any suggestions, as I'd really like to get the scimitar from Aeggareth at the end?
Thanks!!

Watcher's Keep Demons
It seems your problem is that your party gets mauled cause their running around scared / confused/ etc. Use some spells to counteract that by buffing up first.... cast project image too and bring timespot to bear, use some of your own confusion /chaos spells to take some demons outa the fight. Summon some planetars and devas too... and try the insect swarm to prevent further casting from enemies.

Unfortunatly in that room magic shouldn't work. But there are items that can protect you from panic/fear.
But probably with the improvement made on the enemy you can't anymore rush with a mid-lev. party through W.K. as before.
It all seems more realistic, Pit fiend should be powerful and fearsome enemy, a group of them should be a nightmare, and only a very strong group should be be able to stand against them.
So maybe wait a little and get stronger, you'll kick their ass later, for sure.

wait... that room? I thought you meant the one with the demon boss(es). Yeah.. just use anti-mind effecting stuff and hack at everything. Better yet cast the spells BEFORE you warp into that room... you should still have your buffs. and with protection from evil you should be able to bypass the fiend till you want ot kill him at your leisure.

There's something nutty that cancels out buffs (but leaves spell triggers, et al intact) as soon as you enter that room.
Anyways, I went back with better weapons - staff of the magi with spell trap, a +4 scimitar (usono's blade) simulcrumed, FoA and defender against the others, plus a few haste potions and a little more luck. I had my mage (invisible with the staff of the magi) running around with fear as I couldn't get spell trap up fast enough, but next thing I know the pit fiend was taking damage, so I focused on him to take him out, and the rest was relatively easy. I guess it just took a bit more brute power.
I've now cleared out level three, but I may wait before venturing in too deep into #4, even though I'm not afraid of dragons.
Thanks all!
