Planet order (Spoiler)
Planet order (Spoiler)
Hi all!
I would like to hear the prefered order of planets that you visit in kotor and the reasons why.
It would seem that Bastila mentioned the maps in the order of Tatooine, Kashyyyk, Manaan and Korriban. However, I prefer Kashyyyk before Tatooine. I feel that the battles are harder to handle in Tatooine. I also prefer to have Jolee on the team earlier. As such, I have always encountered Calo in Kashyyyk, Bandon in Manaan.
Has anyone chosen to go Korriban as the 1st choice? I wonder if you would encounter the Leviathan early if you do that. I also feel that the sith base on Manaan kinda tough... often requiring Disable Droid or above.
I also like to trigger off the NPC side quests before going to Tatooine. Often, I find that talking to all of them takes a while. Mission is easy. However, Bastila and Canderous can be pretty tight-lipped. So.. I take the time on Kashyyyk to work through their dialogues.
Well, i look forward to your views.

Going to Korriban first doesn't make the Leviathan appear any sooner. But it is somewhat tougher than other places because you may find you need to be stronger in the Force to deal with some battles.
By the time I'm ready to leave Dantooine, I have the side quests for Canderous, Bastilla, and Mission already, so I usually wind up on Tatooine first. I also recently started experimenting with trying to fix HK before he fixes himself, so that's another reason I go to Tatooine first. After that, it's just whichever planet I think I can go to and not need to come back to finish some other quest--I have this compulsion to finish EVERY SINGLE quest, in every game I play--but that's just not possible. Usually, that's Kashyyyk, but not always. After that, the order for me always changes.

HK-47 fixes himself? His storyline is exposed yes.... but gaining that +2 dex and +2 regen... I think HK-47 doesn't fix himself, right? I dunno. I never used him in battle. I talk to him a bit. Most people find him rather humourous, I do too. I tend to talk to Jolee more though. I like slamming that old man. Morever, Jolee is so much more useful... powers, lifepacks.. weird stories...
Really? HK-47 fixes himself? Then the repair skill is useless! Those little amounts of exp from using repair just doesn't add up. Even on the EASY setting, I reach lvl 20 by the time I reach the unknown world.

You playing darkside? Are you trying to get the good items early? Or does your choice of planet order get you more credits? Bandon has a special lightsaber? I play the Xbox too.... Dun seem to see anything special about his lightsaber....
You slaughtered the entire sith base? Whoa... That sure sounds like fun... anything special about doing that? Extra plot?

POSSIBLE SPOLIERS.......
well this is entirely open to opinion and preference.
Personally I dont have a set order, I tend to go where the mood takes me.
Generaly speaking though I prefer Kashykk first, as the fights tend to be a little easier than those darn holy warriors on tatooine.
I like to get stuck into Jolee nice and early, he cracks me up!
If I am playing darkside I usually head straight for mannan once the geonhaddran missions activate. I like to get them done early, so as to rack up the DS points.
If light side its usually off to Tatooine, for some Sand People slaughter.
Then either get the starmap from manaan or head to korriban for a spot of premium item shopping and general sith bothering.
Then I just take it as it comes.

That kid is on the escolator again!
Thanks for all the replies.
I have other reasons why I choose Kashyyyk as the 1st planet.
1) Bacca's sword
One of the best melee weapons around. I tend to use Big Z in some fights.. great tanker. Not that he is necessary, but fun to have my very own wookie following me. So it's nice to have him carry that weapon... it's quite impressive. Anyone like the wookie as much as me?
The wookie is also one of the reasons why I prefer str builds. His defense is really really low. At higher levels, his vitality isn't too wonderful either. But anyone seen him take on a wild rancor? I had him doublewield bacca's sword and the poison sword from Korriban once. I turned on him with Bastila on the unknown world and he took me out!!! Bastila barely made it through alive too...
Now I know why Hans Solo made it far in the smuggling game.
2) Calo Nord
I like some distance between my party and Calo so that I can hurl my bigger grenades at him and have his goons take on my party members leaving me alone with Calo. I find that the best arena that suits my preference is Kashyyyk. That arena gives me the feeling that Calo was really far.... I hurled 6 grenades at him in the 1st 2 turns.. really fun.

Have had no difficulties in doing the same on for instance Tatooine.

If anything he is further away when facing him on Tatooine.
He is also aided by some pretty hard Wookies.
Generally speaking the fight is tougher on Kashykk, which is why I go there 1st, more of a challenge.
The fight against the terantatrek (however its spelt) is nice and tough too.
Kashykk has a more satisfactory feel to it once you finish it.
Unlike Tatooine where you always feel like you forgot something!
As regards Zaalbar, I find him indespensible on Taris, especially if I am saving levels. He practically took out the entire Black Vulkar base on his own.
The Z man is usually there or thereabouts when Im on a mission, my prefered set up is usually 2 melee fighters and a gunman at the back.
As regards gunman at the back......there is none better than Canderous!!
I never go anywhere without him, the other slot is usually a toss up between the Z man or Bastilla.

Hmm.... maybe it's just me... I have to agree that Tatooine is also a good place to fight... i have always fought Bandon on Manaan.. that fight is too close for comfort when using 6 grenades...
Anyway, lemme ask - what makes Canderous such a great gunman?
His dex is so low! I can barely raise it high enough.

This I cannot dispute, but he does add a certain comedy value to the peice.
His remarks crack me up. He may not have the highest dex in the game, but he still gets the job done. His regen is useful too, dont have to waste medpacs on him too often.
Just as it kicks off I stack about 4 or 5 powerblasts for him.
Then I bung on insanity and they are sitting ducks, then its just a bloodbath!!!! hahahaha!!!
Thus reducing his dex handicap.....sort of.
Anyway, who would want to put up with Carths constant wining!!!

wow... is power blast and power attack that good? I even took the effort to turn Canderous into the rapid shot route...
Yeah, Canderous is a little humourous. I like his stories... sounds like a egocentric fellow. But I tend to finish listening to most of his stories by the end of Datooine. I even turn him into a double-pistol wielder like Carth. Pistols are better.... esp when you reach Korriban with a small fortune.
Yeah, Carth has always been a pain in the arse since Taris... I kinda feel sorry for the fellow though. Maybe it's just me- i tend to watch out more to ensure that Dustil makes it back from the darkside in all my games.
Anyway, since we are on the subject of comedians... dun you feel that Jolee is much better... haha.. I like the fact that I can slam him all I want in my comments and replies and not end up getting any DS points.. unlike talking to emotionally sensitive twileks like Griff... one darn comment sent me tumbling down the darkside!
Jolee's old, cranky, eccentric and sure makes me laugh.. makes me want a grandpop like him.. hhahaha...
"Stop being such a baby..."-Jolee
Hahahha.....
Another question-off topic in this thread... does dex-limiting armour reduce attack bonuses on gunmen? I put Calo's heavy armour on Carth... making him look like a knight in shining armour... totally worried about the dex restraint... but his attack ratings doesn't seem to be effected. The Attributes table does register the red +1 to dex mod though.
Also, am i right to say that rangers dun need str at all?

i like having a lot of good items, but its pretty much irrelevant, since i use the manaan duplication exploit to get over 100k credits before i trigger the third starmap...
if you turn yuthura to lightside, after killing uthar, she leaves the academy, and you have to kill off the entire academy before leaving korriban...
if you kill bandon on manaan, you can get a special version of his lightsabre, with some pretty good abilities...
(this is from PeaceNLove's faq about lightsabre crystals in gamefaq)
===================================================
b. DARTH BANDON'S LIGHTSABER
i. Crystal Effects
Mike Liu brought to my attention that, under certain circumstances, Darth
Bandon would leave his lightsaber in his remains, which treats nearly all
enhancing crystals differently. This lightsaber shows up as an ordinary red
double-bladed lightsaber but is separate from the rest of the other red
double-bladed lightsabers in your inventory and on the Workbench screen. It
can only be obtained by fighting Bandon on Manaan after leaving the underwater
kolto factory (Manaan must be the third planet you obtain a Star Map on AFTER
Dantooine, so the fourth planet you obtain a Star Map on essentially).
The crystals are either unaffected, or altered for the better and/or worse.
This is the list of effects on the enhancing crystals when input into Darth
Bandon's lightsaber. Note: If the red crystal is removed from the lightsaber,
it reverts to a regular double-bladed lightsaber.
UNNAFFECTED
Rubat - Damage +1, Attack +1
WORSE EFFECTS
Sigil - Damage - Energy +1-6 only
Nextor - 2x Critical Threat Range only
Opila - +2-6dmg on critical hit only
Jenruax - Blaster Deflection +5 only
BETTER/WORSE EFFECTS
Damind - Damage +2, Attack +2
Krayt Dragon Pearl - Attack +4 only
Luxum - Attack +3 vs. droids only
Firkrann - Attack +4 vs. droids only
Solari - Damage +3, +1-6 Physical Damage vs. Dark Side, Attack +5
Limitation: Can only be used by a Light Jedi
Upari - Damage +5, Attack +5
BETTER EFFECTS
Bondar - On Hit - Stun 100% for 6 seconds, Save - DC10 to negate stun
Eralam - Damage +3, Attack +3
Sapith - Damage +4, Attack +4
ii. Crystal Combinations
Since Darth Bandon's lightsaber alters the effects of almost all enhancing
crystals, I thought I'd add some effective crystal combinations should you
choose to use it.
DAMAGE & ATTACK POWER
Crystals Used: Sapith, Upari
Upgrade(s): Damage +9
Attack +9
Benefits: This lightsaber combo provides guaranteed +9 damage to your
lightsaber, making it a powerful force against any opponent. The unbelievable
+9 to attack will also help guarantee hits on your opponent, designating this
as one of the most formidable double-bladed lightsabers.
LIGHT SIDE
Crystals Used: Solari, Upari
Upgrade(s): Damage +8, +1-6 Physical Damage vs. Dark Side
Attack +10
Limitation: Can only be used by a Light Jedi
Benefits: This is similar to the normal Light Side crystal combination but
with the added benefits of a guaranteed +8 to damage and an amazing +10 to
attack. The damage versus Dark Side opponents is only slightly reduced.
STUN SABER
Crystals Used: Bondar, Upari
Upgrade(s): Damage +5
Attack +5
On Hit - Stun 100% for 6 seconds
Save - DC10 to negate stun
Benefits: Bondar comes with a sweet 100% chance of stun as opposed to the
measly 25% under normal circumstances. The DC10 is still low however, and this
lightsaber may not benefit you later in the game.

power blast is the worst feat in the game...when you're using it you are limited to ONE SHOT PER ROUND!!!
power attack is mathmatically the most powerful feat in the game if you're playing guardian, with double bladed lightsabre...you do more damage per round with master speed than with any other combination...and your high attack scores compensates for the penalty...
heavy armor will limit the amount of dex bonus to ac...so its quite possible with a high ac character to wear light armor, receive the ac bonus to dex, and end up with a higher defense than wearing heavy armor...
however, my experiments have shown that with carth's dex and ac, heavy armor is the way to go, unless you want the special armor from genoharan missions, which will increase his attack rolls...
canderous is a better fighter in every way than carth...carth's high dex is only going to be a few attack points highter than canderous by the end of the game, and his regeneration makes him more likely to survive longer...i am thinking of making him into a two gun gunfighter next game...unless i get my hot little hands on sith lords next next week, and shelve my kotor...

I put Calo's heavy armour on Carth... making him look like a knight in shining armour... totally worried about the dex restraint... but his attack ratings doesn't seem to be effected. The Attributes table does register the red +1 to dex mod though.
Also, am i right to say that rangers dun need str at all?[/QUOTE]
power blast is the worst feat in the game...when you're using it you are limited to ONE SHOT PER ROUND!!!
power attack is mathmatically the most powerful feat in the game if you're playing guardian, with double bladed lightsabre...you do more damage per round with master speed than with any other combination...and your high attack scores compensates for the penalty...
heavy armor will limit the amount of dex bonus to ac...so its quite possible with a high ac character to wear light armor, receive the ac bonus to dex, and end up with a higher defense than wearing heavy armor...
however, my experiments have shown that with carth's dex and ac, heavy armor is the way to go, unless you want the special armor from genoharan missions, which will increase his attack rolls...

Wait, you mean the darn lightsaber is bugged or it's meant to be like that? That also means that you are better off as a dueler right? As short lightsaber is only 2-12 when unaltered, compared to a saberstaff which is normally 2-20.
Also, hmm... master power attack adds +10 damage to "the next attack". Meaning if I have master speed with doublewield, it's +10 to the 1st attack, and the rest of the 3 attacks that round is normal right?
I dunno, coz I have never tried that out before....
u mean to tell me that if I have doublewield and master power attack + master speed, it's +10 to all those 4 attacks that round? If so, then it is obvious that power attack is seriously the danger combo for a guardian!

In the end, everything will be alright. If it is not alright, it is not the end.

When I said HK fixes himself, he does so at the revelation after you escape the Leviathan. His core memory gets restored, ergo, he's fixed. No one gets the bonuses if you don't fix him yourself, but he still gets fixed.

the darth bandon's lightstaff (he is also known as darth bambi in certain quarters...) is meant to be like that...for some reason...
and YES!!!
master power attack adds +10 to ALL attacks that round...
imagine using that with insanity, or stasis field with a scoundrel guardian....sneak attack...
here is the ultimate evil...double bladed lightsabres, and melee weapons, due to a bug not fixed in the xbox, has NO PENALTIES... you DON'T need two weapon proficiency to remove the penalties in two weapon if you use a two bladed sword or lightsabre...because despite what the equip screen says, you will recieve no penalties...thus, if you plan on exclusive two bladed weapon use, you never need the two weapon fighting feats...
you will need it for two lightsabres, or two swords..

Since I was wondering this myself, I'll throw in my 2 credits' worth:
Here's the basic order (PC version):
Kashyyk
Yavin (first visit)
Manaan (Surface)
Dantooine
Tatooine
(Kashyyk)
Manaan (Underwater)
Leviathan
Yavin
Korriban (1st half)
Tatooine
Korriban (Academy)
Yavin
(Various planets)
Star Forge
It varies a little bit once I hit Manaan depending on the eventual alignment I want. I save a separate game right before talking to Hulas about the Genoharadan quests. This is a nice way to switch alignments with the same character without having to redo the first half of the game. I use the Genoharadan bounties to start the character on the path to the Dark Side. If I want a Light Jedi, I say no thanks to Hulas and the game is a bit shorter. After finishing the "surface" portion of Manaan, it's back to Dantooine to finish off the Mandalorians and possibly one of the Genoharadan bounties. On to Tatooine, then Kashyyk if doing the Genohardan quests. The interesting thing is Darth Bandon usually shows up here instead of after the fourth map on Manaan, though his baddy buddies are better and the fight is tougher.
Back to Manaan to finish the underwater portion, then set course for the second visit to Yavin, and get wayliad by the Leviathan. Head for Korriban and complete the Dreshdae portion (IOW, do eveything except talk to Yuthura). Head back to Tatooine to deliver the mysterious box and finish Canderous' quest. Then return for the Academy portion of Korriban. Off to Yavin for the final visit and a look at Suvan's "special items." If I feel like completing Juhani's side quest, I bounce around until Xor shows up again. Then we head for the Star Forge.
