Bolts Defletcion and Lightning.

Post by ajdaha »

In StarWars ep 2 Obi-One's lightsaber absorbes the lightning attack from Count Dooku. I was wondering if this could be implemented into the game as when your blaster deflection rate is high enough you can be fast enough to block lightning, which should be instantanious.
Opinions please?

I think lightning absorbation is about force mastery, not speed.

I agree though, it should be implentet in the game, maybe a will save for no damage. But it should consume force points as well

It uses the force? Even when Obi-One does it with his lighsaber? He just held his lightsaber infront of himself and countering the lightning attack, the saber abosorbed it.
If you're refering to Yoda, then I think he didn't actually absorb it as much as catch the bolt to throw back at Count Dooku. Because I believe that he, being light, could not use the dark side spells as easilly as Dooku (am I spelling his name correctly) so he just used Doku's lightning attack against him.

But the force lightning is based on FORCE (yes that's right ;) ) so it's all about force mastery, not speed.

Lets just agree to disagree, partly because I have no idea what you're talking about. :)
Ow, here's a question. Does anyone know what Yoda's Wisdom and Charisma modifiers were. I just want to know, so that I can compare my Kotor charcter's power (he has wisdom 14 and charisma 7 bonuses, yes that's right, its the highest bonus to DC overall possible in the game, its 21 on its own) to Yoda. Or else I cannot know how strong he is.
Thank you

Before I start I'd lke to state that I base my arguments on the movies, not the game.

Alright, let me break it down for you:

Force lightning is only used by guys who are really strong in the force (e.g Count Dooku and Empereor Palpatine) therefore, it must be based on force powers right? because if it wasn't, then everybody with a spec of mediclorians in them would be running around frying other guy's right?

So, in order to resist this force heavy ability, one would have to be strong in the force as well, or else anyone could train themself to block it.

Now the difference would be if the lightning was natural, or came from a machine, then the question would be about speed. However, if the lightning is based on force powers, then force powers would be needed to block them

oh, and by the way, how do we know it's lightning and not just force energy shaped like lightning?

Concerning your Yoda question, I think you need to start a new thread about that, but personally I think it's just blasphemeus ;)

I don't see. If he's using a lightsaber to block the attack (not saying its lightning, even though it looks a hell of lot like it) why does he have to use the force. Light is a force, but we can block it with anything really, that doesn't mean that we have to use, the Light from our own fingers to block it. :p
If the force was involved in blocking this attack, then I don't see why Obi-One would clearly raise his lightsaber infront of himself and intercept the lightning attack.
PS: I'm sure it is lightning, and I base my assumption on the way that it looks like lightning. The only way something can look like lightning is if it is, lightning. All this guy does is increase the number of positive or negative electrons so much that they are forced to jump from his hand to the opponent. Which happens instantaniously. How he manages to alter the number of positive or negative electrons in himself and the opponent is probuably to do with the force.

But you also see clearly in the movie that Obi-Wan RAISES his lightsaber, he doesn't whip it up as if speed was necessary. As to the whole lightsaber thing, Obi-Wan obviously isn't strong enough in the force to block the attack unarmed,
Yoda is.

About the lightning thingy, one can say that Obi-Wan uses the force to channel one of the polar extremes (+ and -) into his lightsabre, thus the lightning is leaded into the lightsaber, and dissipates peacefully there.

Have you ever tried to put out a fire with a flamethrower? Or destroy water with a water hose? it can't be done, why? Because something cannot be destroyed by it's own element, it will only absorb the damage. That's why force is needed to block force attacks, not speed or strenght of body, those are needed to block or evade physical attacks.
It's the same with light, the goal of a light beam is to light something up, when it hit's something that isn't a lightsource itself and lights it up, that goal is completed. However, if it hits another light source, then the beam is blocked.

You see now?
