Oh no - back to square one!!! (please can someone help - part 2)

After I reinstalled BG SOA as a full installation the game play was better - but still jerky. So I then went on to turn of all the animations, sounds etc and increased the cache size. Game played wonderfully for about an hour then started jerking again - badly.
What bothers me the most is the fact that my computer should be able to handle this game. It is a pentium 3, 650 mhz, 63 mb ram and I have loads of memory!! Does anyone think it could be a problem with the computer itself and perhaps not the game?

I do not know much regarding the technical side of things and would really appretiate any input anyone has....

Okay guys - I know 63mb ram sounds strange but I got this info of: my computer - (In properties) but even weirder is in my direct x diagnostic it states I have 62mb ram? What up with that??
So what youre saying is that by increasing my ram it could possibly improve my game play?
I think though that I may have a problem with the actual computer - another game I play freezes alot aswell. BG - Tales of the sword coast also was jerky but not as bad as BG - SOA.

im thinking it migth be your comp that are bad...BG2 does not have the memory leak problems that torment had..causing gameplay to slow down after some use...ive never had such problems...have you noticed it in other games too?

Okay, this confuses me ... 63 (!) MB ram? How'd you get that?? It isn't an easy binary number ...

hey man - don't pick on the 'newbie' (can I say that, i'm a newbie

). if u got 64 mbytes o memory - it isn't much, at least not loads. try increasing your memory as first aid - for me it did the trick and gameplay is ok (not great though with 800*600). with 64 mb it was awful. my computer (me is hatink that word) is 400 mhz amd/ 128 mb ram.

Many people have the same problem as you do (including me). When I play I have to reboot my computer at least once an hour. As you know this becomes VERY annoying. My only suggestion is to send email to Interplay's technical support (include all of your system stats, OS, etc.). They won't be able to fix your problem-they haven't fixed mine- but maybe its something they can work on for the next patch. The more people they hear from the better.

(Computer: 900Mhz Athlon T-bird, 30GB ATA100 HDD, 128MB PC133 RAM, 32MB GeforceII video, SB Live! Value Digital - As you can see the hardware is NOT the problem on my machine)

Chade, I don't try to be knit-picking (sp?), but this simply confuses me ... if he doesn't mean 63 MB (which is impossible to get I think), what did he mean then? 64? It is just not clear ...

By the way, I don't experience any slow downs, and didn't even when I had 'only' 64 MB. Right now, thanks to my friend Source, it is 128 MB. Well, it went a little jerky when there where lots of spell effects and such in view, but I guess everyone has that.

(Forgot to add: I have an AMD-K6 2, at 350 MHz).

The only room that *REALLY* proved difficult for my machine (crashed once on it), was in the Mind Flayer dungeon in the Underdark, the room with all the controlled slaves. For some reason, my machine came to an absolute standstill, with maybe 1 or 2 frames per 5 seconds or so ... I wonder what that room will do now, now that I have 128 MB instead of 64, and 32 MB on my video card instead of 4 or so...

... this is completely theoretical. If you have old motherboard with many SIMM slots this could actually work. The one thing you have to remeber that SIMM's come in pairs unlike DIMM's.
So if you got 2*16, 2*8, 2*4 & 2*2 SIMM's you've got 62 * 1024K = 63488 MB's of ram.

btw. I know you weren't being picky (what does knit-picking (sp?) - mean?) and it confuses me too. I think by loads of memory he's talking about hd-space and with 63 mb's of ram he just hit three when he should have hit four. (<= I know there's a word for what I just tried to explain - I just don't know it)

Sometimes I amaze myself, I don't know why I posted those? It was like really stupid, I probably just proved to everyone that I didn't read the original message, so I started balbbering about ram which has nothing to do with the original post. And when people are click the topic to read about it they get annoyed because someone there is posting stupid messages which have absolutely nothing to do with the original post ... of course, this isn't helping.

And the word you're looking for is 'typo'

With knit-picking I meant to say that you make comments about something small or minor, and blow it up to proportions (like I did

). But I thought it was that word ... but couldn't find it in my dictionary either. Am I mistaking? Is it another word, that I just spelled phonetically? Can anybody tell us?
