When to rescue Imoen +question about dual class

Post by RP80 »

Was just curious to know when it is best to rescue Imoen? Does it have an impact on the game if I wait a long time?
Back when I played BGII I dumped her right away in Irenicus dungeon and then tried to clear out most of the quests in Athkatla before going to that island to save her.
This time I don't plan to have her in my party either so is there any hurry to get her? I'm thinking of creating an evil charachter so for role playing purposes he or she(haven't deceided char yet) wouldn't care much about anything besides him/herself. So Imoen might have to wait a while.... :P
Yeah and finally, I plan to perhaps buy the expansion pack if I feel the game is as fun now for me as I remember it, what would a good evil dual charachter with the expo in mind be? I don't want to use any mods or hacks, so no kensai/conjurers etc...
I'm thinking of doing either a thief/mage of some sort or perhaps a thief/priest of talos. When should I dual the thief and which skills should I put points in? Is it for example good to get find traps, lockpicking or should I use npc for that job? And is detect illusion any good?
Sorry for all the questions, but BG is such a complex game, especially charachter creation. And since I probably will spend a couple of hours with my char I want to have a good one I will feel happy about.

When you choose to rescue Imoen has no impact on the game. You can wait and do all the side quests you want before trying to rescue her. So you won’t be penalized for blowing her off.

The duel classing questions its all a matter of choice. Although don’t wait too long when dueling. As to what level would I take the thief, I’m not sure, someone else could answer better. My favorite duel classes are Beserker then mage or Beserker then Cleric. Both are powerful tanks. Or just take a multi-class fighter/mage as they are very tough.

thanks for the fast reply. I'm just right now rolling stats for a berserker. Think I will go with that since it seems solid. I don't know how the experience tables looks in ToB but I'm guessing it's best to dual a zerker to mage at lvl9?

go for level 13, if you have/getting ToB, if not then 9, I'd say thats really the way to do it.

By the way, a dualed Cleric/thief wouldn't work too well, best bet would be a multi'd Half Orc cleric/thief, they work wonders, really fun characters, great for roleplaying.

When you go to rescue Imoen has a huge impact on the game, especially if you plan on having her join your party.

If not, the only impact she has is that the side quests are geared towards your power level.

If you go to Spellhold at a higher level, the baddies will be tougher. If you go at a low level, they'll be easier, but some side quests when you get back from rescuing her (if you choose to do them) will be tougher.
