the best dual weapon combo

Post by Lucian »

my take:

celestial fury and black razor

nice imunities..charm and fear..the cool stun ability from celestial fury..and the drain abilty from black razor..change of extra damage from celestial fury

some migth say crom faeyr migth be of note...yes..but only as an extra weapon to smite golems..and the strength bonus..just use a strength belt ..and just will get the last you need from black razor..that also will heal and hasten you..while severely weaken an enemy..that migth be left stunned and have taken extra damage....the modifiers are decent at +3, meaning you can dice up most baddies without problems....this combo would be heaven for a backstabbing assasin, but unfortunately he can only get 1 star in backstabbing..and the swashbuckler have no backstab multiplier..a blade would prolly be the best choice..with offensive spin that are much better than the kensai's kai shot..and the bard can cast spells too..and use the awesome harp of pandemonium

Crom Fayer mainhand & belm offhand.

You can hit anything with Crom Fayer and belm gives you the extra attack / round - so you'll end up having 5 attacks per round. imp. haste the guy and you'll attacks 9 times / round with crom fayer and with thac0 of ~-19.

Yes, but unless you cheat or export/import (and who wants to play the same game, with the same character.. seems boring imo) you can only wield it in one decent battle.

Even though it is not really powerful, I like the flail of ages. The chance of slowing is nice (no save!) and it deals different types of damages which is also nice... And you get it early in the game...

Hmm...Carsomyr and Impaler or the Silver Sword Image

Seriously, I think it depends on the character. Barbarians just BEG to have Defender of Easthaven in their off hand...even for kensai it is my favorite off-hand weapon. For any character once you hit AC -10 it is the only item that can give you more defense.

Main hand I like Celestial Fury. Good damage and the stun results are awesome. Flail of the Ages or Crom Faeyr are good possibilities as well. I don't like giving up 2 Str items to get 1 with Crom Faeyr though. It's good for maxing 1 character if you have the right proficiencies, but not good for the party as a whole.

I agree that Blackrazor isn't really a valid choice due to being so late in the game. Beyond that, by that time the immunities don't really help due to saves and it's random chance on attack specials never seemed to trigger for me.

Carsomyr is a two-handed weapon . I don't think you can wield both Carsomyr and a second sword .

Don't forget the Flail of ages though ..
slow opponent (no save) + fire + cold + etc damage . Flail of ages and equilazer combo can be deadly ..

It's a toss up depending on what you fight. Image I like Celestial Fury because of the near unresistable stun and it's huge range of damage for most fights. When I fight undead I pair Fury and Daystar, since I have an Amulet of Power, and with a Holy Might, Haste, Shield of Archons, and woohoo.

IMHO, crom faeyr is highly recommended, for it gives u a STR of 25, with its associated dmg bonus ( +14 if memory serves )

Someone said you don't need Crom Faeyr as you can use a girdle. The best girdle gives 21 strength (+4/+9), Crom Faeyr gives 25 strength (+7/+14). In my opinion, +3 to hit and +5 to damage is very significant. Nothing else comes close to Crom Faeyr for that reason. And also for that reason, it's no fun. I don't like Crom Faeyr, I don't think they should have included it in the game. But enough whining, they did, and it's the best.
I think blackrazor is over-rated. It's good, but it's ability only works 15% of the time. Not good enough to make it's way into my inventory. I dislike celestial fury for the same reason. Never rely on effects that allow a save. I prefer daystar simply for being +4 against evil. (I wish they would have included a simple +4 londsword in the game. It would be my choice.) I coupled that with the equaliser, which gives better immunites than blackrazor. But that's only the best longsword combo (it's all my character could use).
If I could choose any weapons (other than that accursed hammer) my offhand would be belm. Mainhand, I dunno. Cutthroat maybe? (Are there any one +4 one-handers other than cutthroat, bonedagger and Cromsy?)

The equalizer and blackrazor is a nice combo but you can only use it in 1-4 battles and none of those battles qualififes as decent Image
An other nice combo is celestial fury and malakar +2. you shouldnt use 2 diferent weapon types since you cant get grand mastery in more then one weapon if you want 3+ in 2 weapon style.
