Damn, i hate the way they say "LaCroix" in Bloodlines... I'm french canadian and the way they say it is totally wrong (or totally with an english accent). La Croix in french means The Cross in english. The real way to say is La CROUA (if you write it the way it supposed to sound). In the game they say it like its written LaCROY. In french...the letter "i" is pronounced like the letter "e" in english. Anyway...can't blame people for not knowing it...probably too much research.

BTW if you need any explanations on french words, just send me a message :D

Eden, I noticed that as well. How terribly irritating. You'd think that they could at least do a little research on French pronunciation; how hard could it be to look something up in a dictionary or ask someone who spoke French?

Or maybe since the game takes place in LA, in America, and people speak with their American accents, that's how people say his name.

Americans have last names from all over the world. Mine's from Germany, but being an American, I sure as hell don't say it with a German accent.

How could this possibly bother you? It would be like watching a movie in subtitles (say, French), and one of the characters says an American word... would it be better if they, for one word, removed their French accents and tried their darnedest to say it with an American accent?

Pfft, I pshaw at you! :D

This looks like it's going to deteriorate into a round of accurate vs American pronunciation, which never achieves anything. I'll leave the thread open for a bit, but if that's all it's going to be, I'll close it later.

Touché! At some point, though, I seem to recall Lacroix talking about how he was from Europe, blah, blah, blah, and being the uppity Ventrue snob that he is you'd think he'd insist that all this loyal subjects pronounce his name properly.

Last names may be an exception, but there are still some words that even we in America attempt to pronounce correctly. When was the last time you heard someone talking about a "Wren-dehz-vows" (rendezvous) point or ordering some "Owers-devowers" (hours'devours.) :D

Draek, I agree! Jack is the BEST character in the game, hands down! My Ventrue wanted to stick to the Camarilla but Jack made it hard... He is SO cool!

Beckett's cool, too, but he's a little condescending. It fits him, though. I don't think he'd be quite as much fun if he weren't so "holier-than-thou" sometimes. He's one smooth guy; I LOVE the smirk that he gives your character after he finishes every sentence.

Lacroix mentions that he was chased to Africa at one point. But from his perfect English, i would guess he is a long-time american.
And he is a buisnessman too , of course. I would think Lacroy sells better than Lacroe currently. ;)

Jack is indeed the coolest character in the game. Partly,of course due to the fact that he is one of the few, you have a lot of dialouge with.
For me Max Straus is the model vampire ,though. Doesn't need any gorillas with oversized swords to make you understand who is superious. Always polite, always in charge. Very smooth :D Pity there is so little dialouge with him.

Well on my first run in the game I'm a Brujah so no problemo here, I RPed Jack as a sort of spiritual father - Nines a bit too, but a little too obviously charismatic and ends up being more a sort of guardian angel - and of course down with the anarch was the way to go ! Now on my second run I'm a Tremere, as treacherous they can be, he naturally feels more at ease with the plots and schemes of the camarilla but still I have to obliterate the warming up and soulful homie image of Jack in my second char's mind so he can be the ruthless, self centered bastard I want him to be :D

P.S : Got to luv Damsel as well - she reminds me of a RL friend of mine - especially when she softens and then almost instantly switch back to pissed-off b***h mode :D

Had the same experience. It was one of the best moments in the game.
Damsel is so much like one of my uni friends. Very serious about politics and
her buttons are as easily pushed (gotta remember that line).
I actually have to show her Damsel sometime. Just to see how she reacts :D
