Well I found my Fallout, and successfully got it installed. Don't know why it never worked in the past. Anyway, I've searched Vault 15 probably 3-4 times now and I'm still not getting the message that the water chip isn't there. I only know I'm supposed to get the message because after my 3rd time looking for the darn thing I broke down and looked at the walkthrough. I also noticed that there's supposed to be a hunting rifle in Vault 15 but I can't find it anywhere. I am using small guns and melee weapons but it'd still be nice to have. So can anyone help me?
I don't know why I never tried harder to get this game to work in the past. The SPECIAL system is a nice change of pace from dnd based games, and come to think of it the SPECIAL games I know of were much more extensive than dnd based games of the same type. Too bad they never caught on like the rest. I love classless systems with ultimate customizability and freedom. It's not so great if you've never seen the system before and lost your manual(me when I first started up arcanum), but that's why there's prefab characters waiting there for you.
So I dug it out, and now I'm stuck!!!

That's where every walkthrough I've looked at says I should get the message, but to no avail I've got nothing. One of them said you needed decent perception and intelligence. None of my stats are below 6, and I think that qualifies as decent. To my knowledge this is the main quest, so why would there be a stat requirement for you to proceed in the game?

I will have to start a game up when I have time then, to see if I can find the excat location ..
However - Fallout 1 is a rather buggy game, so encountering bugs is certainly not unlikely.
I strongly doubt there would be stat-requierments to finding a plot critical thingy like that

The message is just floating text over your head, it's not on-screen or anything. And you only get it the very first time you search the area. It is quite easy to miss. Don't worry if you do miss it, it has still happened! What you should do next is head back to Vault 13 and chat with the Overseer. He'll tell you to look elsewhere.
