I'm considering replaying Baldur's gate 2. I finished the game last time 2 years ago, but I'm thinking to give it another go. I lost my lvl 40 fighter in the meantime and I don't want to start from scratch...
What I'm thinking is "recreating" my fighter at level 39 and double class him to mage...
Need some help though on what to use to accomplish this... How do you go about creating a full fledged 39 level fighter from scratch?
What stats shoul I remember. If anybody can post what I need to do and how my char shoul look I'd appreciate it.
Thanks.
Considering replaying - need help
??
Just how are you going to double (dual)-class him to mage? Unless you've removed the XPcap he will only reach 8000000 XP, which will mean you will get a mage at lvl 3 or something. And besides, your mage only activates when he comes at lvl 39. Maybe you should consider making a lvl 20 fighter before dualling.
If you want to make a lvl 39, i suggest you Download Shadowkeeper from www.sorcerers.net, and them set the lvl to 39. The rest will come automatically.

If you haven't played it in 2 years, I'd say it'd be worth it to you to play through again, this game has more than enough depth to make a 2nd run through a different experience. But if that's not enough for you, then I suggest installing a bunch of mods for a new gaming experience. Check out the thread "I'm going to do it" for ideas on which mods are good.

You don't want to start from scratch, but you want to dual class a level 39 fighter? I'm sorry, but that statement doesn't make sense ... effectively all you'd accomplish is creating a first level mage with a ton of hit points. You do realize that until your mage reaches level 40 (assuming that even happens ...), you will not be able to access any of your fighter skills?
You could take two different paths, start a new character and dual class him almost right away, giving you the benefits of both classes early in the game, or cheat and give yourself (via CLUAConsole - search for it for more info) 3 million EXP and level up to around level 20 or so (?) and *then* dual over to a mage, and add on another 3 million EXP which should be enough to recover your primary class again.
The tough part is that you lose your primary class after you dual until you get to a higher level in your secondary class. The fun part is that it makes the game... interesting.
There are soooo many choices on armor and weapons but a fighter/cleric may be easier, as a cleric can wear armor while casting spells, whereas a mage can't even if they are dualled.
Good luck!

I'm sory, perhaps I was not as clear as I shoul have been.
1. I finished the game 4 times with this character 2 years ago when I was in college.
2. Yes I removed the level cap both for SOA and TOB... Consider it cheating if you will, but I could't wait for those high level abilities. I even found a modd that allowed you to go to level 50 and reached that too, virtually messing my character up... (exported a level 39 fighter just for this reason level 40 mage/level 39 fighter sounded sweet
3. I played multiplayer with 2 custum character (one pure fighter and one pure mage) so I know how to level a mage (to the best of my abylities that is)
4. I realise that I'll be starting with a low level mage with a tanks HP, but that's exacly what I want... I want to solo this time (I've never done it before so the fighter levels will help a bit... I hope
5. Romance wise I've copleted Jaheira and Vidomina last time
Anyway thanks a lot for your support...
PS: I'd like to read a bit about the mods currently availalble for the game, before I get started. If you could provide a link I'd be gratefull.
Thanks again

I don't think you'd find the game much fun if you play like that and make yourself so powerful. The point of playing a solo charcter is relying on wits and tactics not a large amount of hitpoints and bash things to death.
Warning: logic and sense is replaced by typos and errors after 11pm
Spoiler
, it has yet to return
You could multiclass if want to play a highlevel mage and fighter. Unless you really have to be human that is. The big gain in dualclassing is to take 9 or 12,13 levels of fighter and then mage plus the fact that you can use kits for the fighter levels. To get to level 40 mage will take a lot more than 8 million xp so you wont get there until deep into ToB. My recommendation is multi or perhaps use sk to create a human multi with kits in the fighterclass.
Otherwise a berserker dualed to mage at level 9 is a killer!

You can't handle the truth!

If you want to slice and dice your way through the game with an insanely powerful character, more power to you.
I'm not sure what you mean by "double class". You can either play a multi-class Fighter/Mage (if he's non-human) or a Fighter dualled to a Mage (if he's human). Which one do you prefer?
To create the character, you can use a few simple cheats. First, install a level cap remover. Then make sure you can use cheat codes by editing your BALDUR.INI file. Then start the game and roll up a Fighter if you want to play a dual-class character, or roll up a Fighter/Mage if you want to play a multi-class character. If you have trouble rolling the stats you want, you can raise them later by creating Tomes that will raise individual stats (excluding Wisdom and Charisma). Put as many points into Wisdom and Charisma as it will take to make you happy, then use the Tomes to raise your other stats if you're not happy with them.
To create the Tomes, use the following cheat codes:
CLUAConsole:CreateItem("BOOK03",xx) for Constitution
CLUAConsole:CreateItem("BOOK03",xx) for Strength
CLUAConsole:CreateItem("BOOK03",xx) for Dexterity
CLUAConsole:CreateItem("BOOK03",xx) for Intelligence
where "xx" is the number of Tomes you want.
To identify the Tomes before you use them, create some scrolls of Identify and hand everything to Imoen:
CLUAConsole:CreateItem("SCRL75",4) to create 4 scrolls
When you have the stats you want, then all you have to do is raise your character's experience with the cheat codes:
CLUAConsole:SetCurrentXP("7750000") for a 39th Level Fighter to dual to a Mage
Then you can dual to a Mage. To become a 40th Level Mage and regain your Fighter abilities, you need another 11,250,000 experience points after you dual-class your character:
CLUAConsole:SetCurrentXP("11250000")
Then you'll have a 39th Level Fighter dualled to a 40th Level Mage.
If you want a multi-class 39th Level Fighter/31st Level Mage, use the following code:
CLUAConsole:SetCurrentXP("15500000")
If you're going to play a Mage over 31st Level, you might consider patching your game with a MOD that will enable 40th Level spell tables or 50th Level spell tables. You probably ought to install those MODs before you roll up your character.
You could use Shadowkeeper if you wanted to, but it's not as methodical as the steps that I just outlined and you might not get your hit points, saving throws, proficiency points, and High Level Abilities just right. If you level up inside the game, everything will be the way it's supposed to be. In fact, now that I think about it, you really ought to level up one level at a time if you want to make sure you won't have any problems selecting High Level Abilities. Just look at the experience tables in the manual and enter the appropriate cheat codes to go up one level at a time.
Good luck!
