This just in! In an act of unparalleled fairness and balance™ FOX News declare the Netherlands as the home of the new holocaust.

Something terrible is happening in the land of wooden shoes, windmills, Rembrandt (search) and wonderful breakfasts.
A Dutch hospital is euthanizing — killing — newborn babies who don't measure up to an arbitrary standard set by the hospital. The hospital at first requested guidelines for so-called "mercy killings" of newborns. It then revealed it has been engaging in the practice without any guidelines at all. Three years after the Dutch parliament passed a law allowing doctors to actively kill patients they deemed terminally ill, in great pain and with no prospects for recovery, it has come to this. At least with the elderly sick, they had to be consulted about their wishes. Newborns receive no such privilege.
I'm not surprised.
Once a single category of life is declassified as having no intrinsic value and a right to life, it is a very short step to declassify other categories when they are considered inconvenient, or burdensome.
Holland is a perfect example of what happens when there is no governing moral standard. The Dutch have decriminalized most drugs and people smoke dope openly in venues set aside for the practice. Prostitutes display their wares like mannequins in department store windows. And now we have at least one hospital murdering already born babies because someone has decreed them unworthy of life.
If ever there was a slippery slope to be studied, this is it.
The Dutch are now grappling with their open border policy. They have admitted thousands of radical Islamists who have not assimilated and are threatening the stability of the nation. A Dutch filmmaker (search) was murdered last month by a radical who didn't like a film he made criticizing Islam's treatment of women.
And now we have the killing of newborns. All of this in a country where the Nazis murdered Ann Frank just because she was Jewish and therefore less than human.
Does history repeat? In Holland, apparently it does.
summary: "The dutch have no morals, and should be thoroughly judged. Also, smoking weed leads to the killing of babies leads to a new holocaust. Additionally, Anne Frank was terminally ill (perhaps because being Jewish is a terminall illness) and thus her murder is comparable to euthanasia."
I don't mean to press the kick the USA button, but this is a ridiculous excuse for 'news'.
edit: I was about to post this in the euthanasia thread, but was afraid it would derail it.
second edit: Kick the USA button. Because I'm proud of that gif.

If you hadn't mentioned it, I don't think it would have occured to anybody. After all, Fox is not the US government. It is part of a privately owned international corporation headquartered in the US--as are many other monolithic networks which are more sane or at any rate, less overtly biased in their "news" casting.

I agree with fable. The US is not overly opposed to the Netherlands.
Also, the news media is driven by the need to make money, so they primarily write stories in a way that will sell advertising. By linking to them you have potentially caused more hits to their site and made them a little money. It doesn't matter if you agree with the story or not, the advertisers feel they have reached you.

Fable, I did call a major US newsnetwork a source of fundamentalism
Arno, child euthanasia is not legal in the netherlands, but hospitals have openly performed it and reported all cases to government prosecutors. No charges have been brought against the doctors or the hospitals.
Examples of euthanasia include cases in which babies' spinal cords are damaged to the point where no muscles that control breathing will operate, so hospitals deactivate the life-support systems (with the permission of the parents). They're not euthanasing infants with Down's syndrome, they are stopping the life support of infants which will not live more than a month regardless. Whether that's ethical or not is up for discussion, but comparing the Netherlands to Nazi Germany and euthanasia to the holocaust is beyond preposterous.

I wrote them a short e-mail to show them how I feel.
J. Janssen not being my real name naturally as I didn't want them to have it. Childish perhaps, but I don't like throwing my name around.Today I read the FOX article by Cal Thomas concerning Dutch values, ethics and the euthanizing of babies in Dutch hospitals. To say the least, I was appalled.
The article states that doctors, almost randomly, kills babies without any rules and laws whatsoever. Cal Thomas mentions that he is not surprised by this and with this he shows his low esteem of The Netherlands and it’s people. He also writes that the Dutch have no governing moral standard and he writes about this in a manner that implicates that prostitutes are at every corner and the sidewalks are covered with junkies.
Cal Thomas concludes his article by comparing the Dutch with the Second World War Nazies. The authorization of babies with a terminal illness is compared with the killing of Anne Frank by the Nazies.
This article is a stain on the FOX news standard and is an insult to every Dutchman.
Also, Cal Thomas shows to be a short-sighted, prejudice man who has no knowledge about the facts and didn’t bother to get the facts on the table before he wrote this article.
Yours sincerely,
J. Janssen

Good job rob!
Seeing as how they're writing arguments from an extreme position in the hopes of compromising closer to your side, I think I'll also drop them a mail about fundamentalist extremists inventing a crisis in Holland, because rather than allowing terminally ill infants to die a natural death, they want to force doctors to artificially prolong their suffering as long as possible.
I loathe exams and hate the fact that I don't currently have the time to speak my mind to them. Tomorrow's a friday though, and because I only have an exam in the morning I should be perfectly able drop them a line sometime in the afternoon, providing the night doesn't start early

I hath returneth to the boards! After an all-too-long hiatus, Opal is finally back! In other news, in response to this, all I can say is: I watch CNN . Look, FOX news is not exactly known for being impartial, so it's really no surprise that they would write an article in this way. Is the way this guy wrote his article good? No, probably not, but really, at least he's open about it. If nothing else, you might view this article as entertainment .
I suppose he does get points for honesty about his opinion.
You're missing the point. Cal Thomas is a paid commentary and editorial writer. That's what he does (among other things). He should no more be praised for honesty about his opinions than Rush Limbaugh. He draws a check for being that harsh. It's good theater. And he's a neo-con, which makes it profitable for him, as well.

Back in July, our CBS affiliate ran a so-called "editorial" on the station's 50th birthday.. They paraded out the General manger and showed the little editorial opening sequence and everything..
Edit: Also on here is one about how there has been a lot of bad news that month and they don't thik we should have to suffer hearing about it.. Great, the news wants to deny us the bad news now.. And one more about how cool SpaceshipOne looks. All by VP and General manager Banana-Nose Maldonado.
