Script Question

Post by Nimh »

Does anyone know of a script, or a plugin with a script in it, that could basically turn a fireplace on or off? Or if this is even possible? ... I'm looking at a site now about writing scripts for morrowind, but I thought maybe I'd just ask. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

As far as I know, I don't think it is possible, but then again why would you want to? I've always found that a fireplace really adds to the coziness of a room. I suppose in the real world it would be a good idea to turn it off before you go out, but for some reason it doesn't really seem to matter in Morrowind.

Well setting a fireplace off or on isn't the only thing you could do with such a script... Imagine a quest were you would have to torch the hideout of the big evildoers by putting a carpet on fire...

I advise asking the MW summit or official boards, thats where you can find the more talented modders.

While I agree a fireplace adds coziness to a room, walking into a dark room and turning one on while you're there seems a little more cozy to me, IMO =) I guess I'm a hands on sort of player. I like walking around opening cupboard doors and activating switches that open doors and stuff. Anyways, it was just an idea I had for a mod I'm building.
Thanks for the direction too, I will check at those sites.

from a coding standpoint, it shouldn't be that hard to do. fireplace begins with model A, when player hits "use," fireplace gets model B (on fire)--similar to doors.
Good things come to those that wait--but only what's left over from those that hustle.

Yeah I didn't think it was all that difficult, but I also know next to nothing about coding... thought maybe I'd skip that step. Guess this gives me a reason to learn a little more though. :D
Thanks again for the input.

Once on my trips though the world wide web I stumbled accros a certain lighting mod which was said to allow the player to turn candles and stuff on and off. Well, I've never tried it out and...I've never seen it again. Sounded cool though...

This would be interesting to see. To be semi-realistic, as you suggest, you'd have to apply a torch to the fireplace. I don't think the game will support spells affecting objects in this fashion, or a fireball spell would be a possibility. In any case, it could be neat.

Hey, this reminds me of a scripted event in Havish (I think), where a warehouse starts to burn. I haven't experienced this myself, because I still haven't visited Havish, but I read something like that in a review. Could be helpful to check that script or ask the guy who made Havish...

Hey, just wanted to say thank you again for the help. After about 6 hours of trial and error using the Balmora Tower mod's waterfall script I'm now the proud owner of a dwarven crank operated fireplace lol. I even got the crank to turn :D Maybe I'll work on the "torch to fireplace" method next. Thanks again guys.
