Best area in the game? *Spoilers*

Post by LiftedNevermore »

So, what did people think was the best area in Bloodlines?

Personally, I liked the Old Sewers, in the part that led up to meeting the Nosferatu, Gary. This was partially because I hadn't experienced any bugs at this point, or identified any glitches, and so the game still held a more significant challenge. (Alright, it was because I hadn't wrecked my character by wasting points on upping their lockpick skill :p ).

But the old sewers were great. At first, the prospect of one of the Tzimizce's creations leaping out of the darkness to pursue my character was spine-chilling. It was fun to blast them apart with the shot-gun, and then see that their body parts actually floated on top of the water... And the log of the sewer worker from the early 20th Century was an effective device for enriching the atmosphere. The music lent a lot to the general "feel" of walking through dark and seemingly empty tunnels, and the distant snarls of the monsters freaked the hell out of me!

After that, to meet the Nosferatu was the icing on the cake! And Gary had quite a speech for a Toreador with 4 points on appearance. The way that he appeared out of nowhere was brilliant, and the spiteful ex-model Nosferatu touched my heart. ;)

What do you all think?

The sewers were the largest Dungeon, and were the only time i was worried about losing the game. And those tzimisce creatures are less ugly than zombies. So i liked it a lot ,too.

But my favourite Area was the Sabbath hideout. Boy, what a blast ! :D
Stormed into a room, see 3 vamps with celerity, draw fire from 3 guns.
See my bloodshield vanish in seconds. Retreat and run for cover. Then go in again and master them with the katana, while they chicken around with celerity :D The fact, that vamps broke through walls to ambush you made it even better.

The Ocean House hotel was great. Not a single enemy, but keeps you on the edge of you seat (kinda like the early parts of the orphanage in Thief 3), jumping at every sound.

Also, the early tzimisce encounters (Death Mask Productions & The Mansion). Those freaks always seem to jump out of the shadows. If Troika had done that part using the Doom 3 engine....

First time through the abandoned hospital in Downtown was a nice touch.

And of course, the Havens :-)

Man, that hospital was worse than Ocean House! It was the fact that you saw the camera crew meet their fate as you progressed. The blood spatter on the door was great. But I must admit it was a bit of an anti-climax to see one scrawny woman standing there at the end...

I believe mine has to be the ocean house. First time I walked up to the door and the light blew I jumped. Then when the paintings started jittering and I heard her voice "He's here" I was shivering lol.

By the way can you name all the movie references in this game?

1212 OceanView was from the Amityville Horor while the hacked them up with an ax is of course the Shining.

Most of the Elizabeth Dane references where from The Fog.

Theres a section of the sewers in Hollywood that is from Night Breed.

Kill Bill gets a nod for the Chinese Temple scene.

Any others?

One of the computers in Ground Zero has a login of "Thrillho..."

Milhouse: "I've only entered my name! THRILLHOUSE"
Game: "Welcome, THRILLHO"

So that's a point for Simpsons :D

I liked Grout's mansion--with all those masked psychos, crazy puzzles and stairways going nowhere--trully designed in the Malkavian spirit! The final touch was having tape recorders lying all around the house, detailing Grout's scholarly expoits and spiraling psychosis. Voice acting/storytelling is the best part of VTMB, and the mansion makes great use them.

Ocean House was pure jap horror (not the extreme gore horror which also identifies with jap horror lol). Also loved the sabbat hideout level, and I think the old sewer level could have been amazing, but was a bit unimaginative...not that it wasn't good, but seeing what else they could come up with during the game, it seems to me like this level in particular could have been a lot more ummm claustrophobic perhaps...or sick lol

Crazy people are always easier to sneak up on, aren't they? Especially when they're so preoccupied with wall mounted candles... :D

I'd have to say the Ocean House. I tend to tweak characters a lot so I am constantly restarting the game. I've been through the Ocean House about a dozen times and it still creeps me out. Probably the best executed area in the game.

Grout's Mansion deserves honorable mention. Grout's tape recorded regrets concerning the disappearance of insane asylums are classic.

I am hard to freak out, but the Ocean House got me. Much Kudos to the writers on that one.

Grout's Mansion is well done too.
Spoilers:
I found in Grout's, killing them male psychos quietly, the female ones did not react. So that is how I played the quest, only killing when necessary, usually by blood draining. In fact my Malkie almost always tried to kill her opponents by drinking their blood when ever possible.

The best puzzle, which is brilliant in it's simplicity, is the mirror puzzle room. I breeze through logic and mechnical puzzles, so this one took me off guard. I was stumped for a couple hours before I noticed the difference between the rooms and figured out there had to be a door between them. The fact that vampires don't have reflections in mirrors helped the illusion on this one.

My favorite part was in that BMP studio... I entered the room and that tzimice creation blasting off the door caught me off guard... The volume was very high, it was around 3-4 AM and when the door fell, I got scared and jumpy...
Best area for me, although the Ocean House Hotel was also nice... and also Grouts mansion...

The BMP studio also caught me off guard. I had the volume really high when that creature jumped through the door. I must've thrown my mouse 7 feet in the air and smashed my knees into the bottom of my desk. It hurt but it was soooooooo worth it.

The Ocean House Hotel was pretty creepy too but my favorite part in the game was when i was at the stip joint talking to that smoking hot vamp in hollywood or was it downtown. The vamp who gave me that poster of her in my haven. Ouch she's hot. I couldn't say no to any of her missions. :D

For fear, sure, Ocean Hotel was scary and jumpy... But for shear "Holy hell, oh god, oh jeez, damm damm DAMM"... I gotta go with the Park and the Forest Fire and 500lbs of angry claws with a tail. I mannaged to get through it the second time through, because the first time I ran into a bathroom, and watched with sinking stomach as the beast chose NOT to bother with the door.. *eep*...

But yeah, watching that SOB burst through wall after wall without a moments pause, and finaly watching him drop.. I danced and danced and danced. Verily did I point at my monitor and chant things such as:

"Oh yeah! You like that don't you sucker!?!! Whos the badest dude in town now eh? Whos your daddy!! You still trying to claw me? Huh? Are ya? Well you can just EAT ME fur face! Ha!" *inster victory dance and pelvis thrusts here*
I was Diablorised once. I got better.
