A brand new "Come into my parlor" bug!

Post by Grimly Fiendish »

Ever one to break new ground, I believe I've stumbled into a new bug.

I'm playing a Gangrel with a measly Utica 37 and a katana, but I don't use either very much. 4 STR, 2 DEX, 3 STA, 3 WITS, 4 brawl, Protean 5, and Animalism 4. Close up I use War Form, and while my claws are slow they do amazing aggravated damage, and if I'm surrounded I just spin in circles with an arrow key and keep hitting attack until I'm surrounded by bodies. For ranged combat I use blood-expensive Burrowing Beetles and the extraordinarily satisfying Bloodsucker's Communion to juice back up.

Lemme' tell you - zinging off three beetles and then hitting some poor slob with the thirsty red ghost bats to juice back up is mighty fun! I don't think I've hurt for blood since I got that wonderful spell.

Interesting side note:
I got minorly hassled by a cop in real life, so in response I went nuts in the game and started taking out as many cops as I could. I only got one masquerade violation, but my humanity dropped with every murder until it got to 3, and then it stopped! No more humanity penalties! I'm not sure if it was a bug or the +3 Tarulfang - my bet is the it's the Tarulfang. I reloaded to before I started my rampage and proceeded, but if my boss keeps pissing me off I'm going to turn all of Southern California into a ghost town starting with those Asian massage parlor girls. YUM!

Speaking of that - here's another interesting side note:
In the strip club, jump up on the bench along the wall, run over to the fat guy, crouch, turn around and face out, then slowly strafe right until your body melds with his, and YOU GET THE LAPDANCE (for the most part.)

Anyhoo, there I was in Mandarin's basement, having beetled and batted him to oblivion. I freed Barabus The Stupid Useless Idiot, I bravely opened the double doors and obliterated the guards, got the popguns and the key to the Fu Syndicate Office door, walked over to the door, and it wouldn't open. I reloaded from before I opened the double doors and tried again, but it still wouldn't open.

There's a little keypad behind a plant next to the door, and my guess is that it unlocks it, but it's one of the 4-digit door code variety, which you can't hack. Punched in a few number combinations, but I don't know the passcode and nobody in the whole internet has posted it.

So I morphed into War Form and clawed it till I was out of blood, fired all my ammo, whacked it a few dozen times with the katana, and it still won't open.

Unless anybody else has any suggestions I'm going try this mysterious "console" deal and see what that's all about. Never tried such a thing before, though.

Wish me luck!

Question: have you (or Barabas if you told him that you aren't any good with comptuers) accessed two computers and deleted the appropriate files? Until you do, you aren't getting out of this building. Also, I seem to recall eventually exiting to the lobby directly from the room where you accessed the final computer (though I might be remembering wrong).

Nope. According to the walkthrough the computers are on the other side of that door, and everybody else seems to just take the key and open the door. I pick up the key, it shows up on my keyring, I try to open the door, and a lock symbol appears. It won't let me pick it. For some reason the game doesn't seem to recognize my possession of the key.

In spite of the bugs it's STILL a great game! I just wish I could play it...

My memory of this section is that one of the guards killed by Barabus or you drops a keycard for the door in question. You may have to highlight it to pick it up.

I loaded from before the whole quest and played it through again and this time it worked. Weird. On to the Giovanni Mansion! And from there, to wherever Activision puts the inevitable patches!
