I've finished the BG series and am trying the Pool of Radiance out. Any hints/help on general what to expect and differences in play styple from BG.

Well for one the combat is turn based and there's a great deal of combat so expect a good portion of your time, at least in the early game, waiting for zombies and other undead to walk to you. And it's a greulingly slow pace at that. In the beginning you might feel a bit weak but once you get going the game get's pretty easy. And a hint: Rangers are pretty useless, and so are Rogues if you have your dice rolls turned on. Last I played I did a solo Monk/Paladin and my the time my game crapped out on my forcing me to abandon the game my character was basically impervious to magical damage(whether it was from traps or anything else) and could hold his own in combat relatively easily. I think I might try and go again.
