know any other game like baldur's?
Baldur's Gate (and BGII and Throne of Bhaal) is the rpg game I have most liked to date. I've tried the Icewind dale also and it's good too. In fact I'm playing the icewind with a friend, a two player solo. We're reaching the end of the game and are looking for a new rpg to play, so my question is: you know any game that accept multiplayer and is so good as baldur's? (not the neverwinter, I hate it... I'am veeery disappointed with it...
).
Thanks, guys!

This really isn't about BG2, but about other games like BG2--so I'm moving it to the Game Discussions forum, but leaving a redirect.
I'd say the nearest thing to BG2 would be Planescape: Torment. The writing's frankly better though with one exception, it lacks the interparty dialog that adds such flavor to BG2.

sorry, Fable, I was thinking about baldur's and didn't realize that this thread wasn't on baldur's indeed.
I tried neverwinter's and got sad, as it had lost the high control of the characters that one have in baldur's. I was waiting for a graphic challenge in the line of baldur's, but found too repetitive scenes, the same schemes one time and another (find the "evil" stronghold, walk through the labyrinth, face the bad guy and kill him)... too many fantastic graphics and too poor story and challenges (I don't know how many times I had to load and reload the game in the baldur's to defeat some enemy... and one or two times were enough for the NWN).
I also tried the dungeon siege, and it is a good game; good graphics and action, but only a run-and-kill game. I fell in love with the baldur's for many reasons, and one of them is the fantastic magic. Lots of spells, lots of possibilities to use them in a battle, and tough battles against mages (um, unless you call a nishruu to kick the mage, hehe. But very good battles all the way). Dungeon Siege is good, but not that one I'm looking for.
About Planescape... well, I'll try it
, and also take a look to the Fallout, but MMORPGs aren't a choice, I think, cause I don't have much time to spend (games are a hobby, hehe, but other things are, too
).
And, Jandau, which non-multiplayer rpgs would you recommend me? Multiplayer option is to play with friends, but sometimes there are things a man has to do on its own, hehe
And some afternoons you are alone and want to turn on the pc and play a bit

Oh, I thought you were going for the multiplay thing. Well, if it's SP you want:
Planescape: Torment - A unique game by all accounts. Excellent dialogues, memorable NPCs, great story. Combat is a bit sucky, but only a little, and it's totaly worth it!
Fallout 1&2 - Somewhat lacking in the graphics department, but makes up for it with story, setting, combat.... basically everything else! True classics in every sense of the word.
Knights of the Old Republic - I agree NWN was a letdown, but Bioware more than made up for it with this game. Good story, good graphics, fun gameplay... The only problem is that some people have an innate disgust of the Star Wars universe, but in this case, it's their loss...
Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines - One of the most interesting games of the year. Great story, marvelous atmosphere and a memorable setting. Sufferes from bugs, but still a great experience. Even the music kicks arse!
Deus Ex - A FPS/RPG hybrid, but an excellent one, offering various methods of completing missions depending on your character development and playing style. Don't touch it if you don't like FPS games.
Arcanum - Piss poor graphics, a bit buggy and unbalanced. That's the downside. Great story, fun character development and a marvelous setting. Personally, I never cared much for it, but I know a dozen gamers who swear by it. Worth taking a look at (renting it)
Temple of Elemental Evil - Very few games follow 3rd Ed DnD as close as this one. Based on the old DnD module of the same name, this is a fun turn-based tactical RPG that suffers from an above average buggyness. Patching is a must
Vampire: The Masquerade: Redemption - Set in the same universe a bloodlines, this older hack & slash RPG can offer hours of fun, a nice story and an involving atmosphere
You should be able to get PS:T and FO1&2 dirt cheap in budget packs. Bloodlines and KotOR are the most recent titles on that list, so they require at least a decent computer, and ToEE won't exactly run on a 486...
Well, this should get you started

even if it doesn't have multiplayer, you shouldn't miss divine divinity if you're an rpg'er.
it's one of those rare games that's not heavily advertised, but is a very good game. in fact, i only heard about it in a forum, too. and i haven't regretted ever playing it. it has a very flexible skill system: you can pick skills from any class. i had a warrior who can summon a dreadknight, a pack of scorpions, and a wall of skeletons, all at the same time. but not at the expense of my warrior skills. it has multiple dialog options and a reputation system, too. the possibilities for different builds are enormous.
the start might be more of a dungeon crawl, but once you get out of it, a whole, wide world opens up to you and you can do any quest you want. kinda sounds familiar, doesn't it?
however, you get to control only one char., so it might not be to your liking.
and if i may add, the music in that game is simply captivating. the best i've ever heard in an rpg. i think it's better than icewind dale 1. and that has a very good soundtrack.

Another good one to try, if you don't mind running a single character instead of a party, is Anito, from Anino Entertainment. It's a Phillipines-based company. The RPG is excellent, with great 2D graphics, strong character development, lots of spells and an intriguing storyline, though the animation is subpar. Regrettably, it hasn't secured any distribution in the US, and other than Asia, it's distribution is spotty. Check it out on the company's website.
You might also want to take a look at Ultima VII. It's about a decade old, now, but some of the conventions found in BG2 originated in that game. Huge, apparently nonlinear world, lots of challenges, and a far more interactive environment than you'll find in any other computerized RPG. If you do decide to get it, be sure to run the compatibility program you can find at http://exult.sourceforge.net/ first. Ultima VII was developed towards the end of DOS development. Origin Systems created a proprietary memory management system for the game which is incompatible with Windows. The Exeult system fixes this.
But PS:T is definitely the closest thing to BG2. Bioware's development team even acknowledged how much they were influenced by PS:T during several interviews, shortly after BG2's release.

Other games to consider:
The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind (with its various upgrades)
INCREDIBLE graphics, and a world that is so expansive and non-linear you could spend a week straight playing and STILL not get to the main quest. Downside? It's hard to finish, not because it's difficult, but just the opposite. By the time you're finished gawking at the scenery and completing all the sidequests, the main quest is going to be ludicrously easy. Once again, no Multiplayer, although for this game single is more than enough.
Guild Wars
I've tried their beta, and it's looking to be shaping into a great game. Although I hate making recommendations based on Betas, I'd give a cautious one for GW here. It's a MMORPG, but with one main difference, there is absolutely NO monthly charge! That's right, you saw correctly NO monthly charge. Here's to hoping they manage to keep their servers running with sales money alone...
Spellforce, the Order of Dawn
I feel bad telling you about this game, because on paper it looks really good. In reality, it sucks bad, and you really, really don't want this game. Still, there are those who like it, so if you're into an attempt at blending RPG and RTS (and ends up combining the worst parts of both), it's your call.
Most roleplaying games don't have multiplayer support, because the idea is that you're playing a ROLE, and therefore its you and not you and your friends who are traveling in the magical mystical world of the game. BGII, in my opinion, might be the only successful RPG that has a semi-decent multiplayer. Still, you really don't need to have multi for you and your friends to enjoy an RPG experience, just invite them over and play on one computer!
