manual?

Post by lohot »

hi,
im brand new to this game.
it seems really neat so far, but im a little confused by what i should be doing.
i bought myself an old second had copy off of ebay, but it didnt come with a manual or an electronic one on the cds.
i know that there have been budget versions of this game out and i hope that they might have had a electronic pdf manual.
do any of you have a pdf of the manual, and if so, would you be willing to email it to me?

thanks.
lohot.

Dude, you don't need a manual for this game, just follow the storyline, there's not much else you can do. It's not that you can go do whatever you fancy like in Morrowind for example. Just talk to the necessary characters, and you'll be fine. ;)

found it!

hi, thanks for replying.
i know that you dont really need a manual to play the game, but i did want to read it for information about the different clans, spells, commands, etc...
anyway, the first place i went to look for one was activisions support site and i couldnt find any place to download the manual.
the other day, though, i was on the support site again for a different issue (the windows xp cannot overwrite saves bug, in case anyone has any solutions) and somehow managed to stumble onto the manual!
they certainly dont make it very easy to find, so heres the link to the relevant page.
https://activision.custhelp.com/cgi-bin ... faqid=1271
maybe the manual can be added to the file section here, i can imagine that this would be very useful for other new players such as myself.

It might be very useful, but as the game is still in print, it would also be very illegal.

What happened to your manual?

He said he bought a secondhand copy on E-Bay, and it didn't come with a manual. That can happen. Hell, last week i bought three games from the bargainbin, Neverwinter Nights, Dungeon Siege, and Praetorians, and all three copies didn't include a manual. Once the price drops, they obviously don't think it's important enough to include one, which kinda pisses me off really. Bargainbin or no, it's still a legal copy and i DO wish to receive a manual with the games as well, but i'm afraid there's not much i can do about it.

To get back to the issue, i have a manual which gives all background information on the clans and a description of the spells, if there's anything you'd like to know, just ask and i'll type it out for you exactly as the manual says, no problem.

Just a thought, but you might also want to check up on GameFAQs. They don't offer manuals per se, but often their hint guides are as good or even better--correcting errors in the original manual, supplying walkthroughs, grading stat options, etc.

just to clarify, i found the pdf manual on activisions official support site.
since they are the games producers, and provide the manual to whoever wants to download it, i think that it would be completely legal to host copies elsewhere.

their support site is not the easiest to navigate ones way around, and the first time i went there to specifically find the manual, i couldnt locate it, and only found it later on by accident while looking for something else.

thank you, legend, for your kind offer to type out any requested information for me, but since ive downloaded the pdf manual from activision, that wont be necessary.

i was just suggesting that maybe the manual could be hosted here as well for other players, as locating it on activisions site was rather difficult, but i also thought that a link pointing the way to get the pdf direct from activision would be just as good, so thats why i posted one.

heres the text from the support page on activisions site i linked to in my previous post, just to show that this is all perfectly legit:
No manual included with the game
Question
I purchased this game but it did not come with a manual.
Answer
You can download the manual from here.

The file size is almost 10MB.

To get the file:
1) Right-click on the link under File Attachments and select Save As.
2) Select a location on your computer to save the file to and then the download should begin.
3) Locate where you saved the file to and double-click it to open it.

We do not have any printed copies of the manual.

Lohot, I'm genuinely glad for you that you found the manual on Activision's website. But the fact that they posted the manual there does not constitute a legal right for it to be posted anywhere else. The manual would have to contain information indicating that it could be posted in such a fashion. Barring that, you can always add a link here to the page that contains the download. :)

i certainly wouldnt want to get anyone into any legality issues.
well, if anyone else does need to get a copy of the manual, they can just follow the link above.
thanks again for your help and clearing things up.

Just to clarify

Just so people know if you take time to look at the activision site you will find that the company does not include the manual with the game now. The only way to obtain the manual is to download it now or to buy a copy. There is nothing illegal about it as it comes from the company's site. It is a rather large download tho and if you are on a slow dial up connection you can expect atleast an half hour of download time.

I just bought a second-hand copy of Redemption as well (had to get it after finishing Bloodlines multiple times), and I paid a $20 premium ($29 instead of $9) for a copy of the game with the manual :) . Just finishing up the first half (Prague/Vienna) and am loving it. Very different from Bloodlines tho...

Well, of course; it's older and have a different kind of playstyle. Pretty good game if you're interested in the World of Darkness, too :) .

Not only that, but it's by Nihilistic, a completely different company than Troika. Personally, I feel VtM:R has one of the best stories for an CRPG. A shame they completely bombed on the online aspect. But anyway, this is off topic. Going to close this thread now.
