Need help! Please!

Post by Opalescence »

I have had this issue for some time, so it's not quite so desperate as I made it sound. The issue is this: I just finished a game of SoA, and in the transition to ToB, I noticed something distressing, the "special abilities" star button was greyed out for some of my characters (specifically Keto and Kelsey)! I've had this happen to Bioware chars too (Imoen), so I know it's not the modder's fault. For Keto (a fan-made Bard NPC), when she leveled up I got her a special ability, and that freed up her special ability button right quick. Kelsey, however, being a Sorceror, doesn't have traps or extra bard songs or whirlwind, so when he levels up his ability-star button stays grey :( . This means that I can't access his spell trigger, and I need it for the triple-powered lower resists, which I have been absolutely RELYING on for lowering the resistances of some tough customers! If you can tell me how to get around this, I'd appreciate it! In-game, legitimate methods are best, but if I have to, I am more than willing to hack my game to pieces to solve the problem.

Well thanks guys, for all your help  . Sorry if I sound a bit bitter, but I was rather hoping for somebody to offer something by now, but it seems that calls for help go un-noticed on this board. This fact is noted for future reference. In any event, I've solved the problem on my own, so if by some unlikely chance somebody wishes to help me, it won't be neccessary any more. I believe my problem lay in the fact that the NPC had a spell trigger active but unused at the end of SoA, and when he was carried over to ToB, that spell trigger "disappeared", but was still active, so that you couldn't access the special abilties "star" icon to release the spell trigger, yet you couldn't cast another one because that last one was still active. I fixed the problem using Shadow Keeper; it is possible to remove effects (like a spell trigger) from a character using SK. Once removed, I could cast a second spell trigger, which once again reactivated my special abilties star button. Well, anyway, there's the solution; unfortunately I was unable to find any legitimate non-cheating way to fix that problem.

Opalescence, I don't think anybody deliberately ignored you. :) Typically at this time of year, there are fewer people posting; in addition, quite a number are playing new games. And finally, if people don't have the answer, they won't post. This doesn't seem to have been a problem others have had, at lesat, not among the BG2 community that remains active. We do all help when we can.

It seems that not everyone has as much free time on their hands as you do this time of year. :) I assume you've finished all of your Christmas shopping, giftwrapping, housecleaning, travel plans, etc.? Unfortunately, I haven't, so I feel guilty just reading posts on this board at the moment. :)

By the way, in order to help you solve your problem, it would have been necessary for me to re-create it and then go about solving it exactly the way that you did. Unfortunately, I just didn't have the time. So I'm glad that you managed to fix the problem yourself. Thanks for sharing the solution with us. The next time someone has that problem and I have time to post messages, I'll be sure to pass it along. :)

C'mon, Opal, you've been a member for some time. You know people here are generally quite helpful. Tell you what, next time you have a problem I can actually help with, I'll be there, ok? ;)

Ack, I wish I'd read this post before, I did indeed have this problem and did indeed figure out what the problem was myself. By the way, yes, there is a "legitimate" way to deal with the problem... just reload in the last bits of SoA, use all your spell triggers, and you won't have a problem when you come into ToB.

I certainly would've helped you if I'd seen this post, but afraid I didn't see it, sorry.
