Just got Vampire undcer the tree today - much anticipated despite the reviews I have read about being buggy.... I figured with the new patch it should have been fine...
So - I install the game and the patch without difficulty, go to start a new game, and it crashes to Windows. Again and again and again no matter how low I put the settings...
As if that isn't problem enough, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling. The uninstall hung up. Now, I can't re-instrall (don't get that option from the opening screen) nor can I uninstall (it still just hangs).
So - two questions:
1) Any idea how I can complete the uninstall so I can start over from scratch?
2) And idea how to fix a "crashes to windows" bug that shows up when I try to start a new game?
I am working onm a relatively high-end system with a good graphics card (Radion 9800 pro) so I doubt it has to do with the system not being goodenough...
Sigh....
i got the exact same problem today, but i fixed it by formatting my computer, i removed every vampire file from my computer and it woudnt let me reinstall. so i had to format. plus if you want the game to run smoothly i suggest you have at least 1GB of RAM.
I don't think I have the option of reformating the computer - too much other stuff on here. It isn't a gane-dedicated computer. (I assume you mean reformating the hard drive and starting from scratch?)
Were you having the same problem as I did before the reformat (i.e., game crash when starting a new game?)

Well, to complete the uninstall, its time for everyone's favorite Windows evil... manual registry editing! Yay! Or not.
Start->Run->type "regedit" (hit enter). Now, keep in mind IANAMSE (I am not a Microsoft certified engineer). I found this information in about 5 minutes of searching my computer. I will NOT guarantee this will remove the game, and I will NOT guarantee that this will not cause your computer to spontanesously combust. Registry editing is a dark art... it can cause great grief. Before you do anything, create a system restore point... for the love of god, create a system restore point. And for good measure, once Regedit is open, do File-> export, and save it somewhere safe. If you screw up, double click on the backup, and you're back to your original, prehacking setup.
To get rid of software, all you have to do is delete the registry keys, and remove the files. Manually delete the files (you know how to do this.) Then, open regedit.
The first key folder you'll search for is under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. Expand that, then go under Software, then Activision. You'll see a folder called "Vampire." Right click that sucka, and send it to the Nine Hells (click delete). Then scroll down to HKEY_USERS. Under my machine, I expanded and found a lot of gibberish folders. I explored all of them (as should you, just in case), but the only Vampire trace I found was under a folder called S-1-5-21-3308722516-1303909375-2225589205-1005. That's a mouthful, eh? Expand that folder (or something similar, maybe, on your comp), scroll down to "Software", expand it, then "Troika", expand it, and delete the Vampire folder. Alternatively, if Vampire is the only folder under Troika, destory all of Troika. Same with the Activision key above.
I hope this helped. I don't know if it will work, and I don't know if it will destroy your computer. This *should* work, in my opinion, but I did NOT test it, as Vampire works fine for me. Good luck, and happy holidays!

problems...
My friend had a simular problem, only it was a read error off the hardisc, and also with the instalation, causing the game to crash(also during the instalation, it stopped midway, unable to finish due to copying errors). I fixed this for him simply by copying over the files directly off the cd, and manually installing it. This may or may not work for you with instalation, but before attempting to run the game, you can always make sure that all of the useless programs which use up memory, running in the background(which may be causing memeory overloads, which cause crashes), are shut down one way or another(I find the easiest way to do this it by pressing cntrl+alt+del and scrolling over to processes at the top. It's pretty much safe to end anything running under your user name, except for explorer.exe, which will cause you to have to restart if you end it. Also, if you end processes this way, be sure not to end any running under "SYSTEM", only under your user name). I find that if I clear up my memory as much as I can, I get much less in game crashes, and the overall performance of the game is mostly better. I hope this somewhat helps.

OK - I managed tgo solve one of my problems....
A simple system restore to a point before I installed the game looks like it will allow me to re-install.
I will re-install the game and try running it first without the patch (I installed the patch before ever running before).
I will report back if I get more crash problems....
