Alchemy: Permanent Potions

Post by ilmrebel »

Maybe its just me but theres so many potions in the game I see no need to make any with the exception of permanent potions. That being said, how high of a level does a player have to be in experience or skill to make a permanent potion? My skill for extract stopped at 3 and skill for the other , dont recall what it was called at the moment stopped at 4. I, at a glance looked through the Kiya thread and tutorial, if you will, and found it to be quite informative, (wonder if shes married) however did not find the answer to the question(s) stated above. Please advise further and i will stop typingf like a cheap lawyer and return to my former redneck self.

1) Few people have played this RPG. 2) For some reason, your comments here didn't trigger a "new post" highlight on the left of my screen.

Level 4, if I recall correctly. I haven't played in a while, but I believe you need the highest level to make that potion.

Personally, I found alchemy very useful. The number, quality and variety of potions you find in any game can vary greatly, and that applies to items, in general: one area that BD and DD have been both praised and criticized for.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

When I played BD, I found a lot of potions but I didn't use a lot of potions, so alchemy wasn't all that useful to me, either. To make a permanent potion, you'll need to acquire holy water. You can get some in a quest, and very rarely a shopkeeper might have it, so you're not going to be making very many in the game. That's probably what's preventing you from making one now.

Actually i have 11 holy waters, however when i want to make a potion only the first 2 options are highlighted, small and medium. My problem is, i believe, i only have 4 skill points alotted for combine, thats all it will allow me so far. hence the original question.

It's the extract skill that is used to create new potions. (The combine skill lets you drag one potion onto another to mix the potions together.) If you have holy water and alchemy plants, but the game won't let you make a permanent potion, then you probably just need more skill points in extract.

swcarter, i do appreciate your help but perhaps you didnt read the original statement and question, if you could advise further it would be appreciated, however, all i have been told is things i already know and not the answer to the original question. And by all means do not be offended as this is not a smart ass reply.

Well, you keep bringing up the combine skill, which isn't the right skill. Fable suggested that extract level 4 would do the trick, and that sounds likely. I'm pretty sure 4 is the max for combine, and so it's probably the max for extract, too.

So your problem is probably one of finding a skillbook or teacher that will allow you to increase your extract skill from level 3 to level 4. I'm not sure where you are in the game (11 holy waters sounds like way too many), but I know there's an alchemy skillbook in Act 3.
