Whirling swords of death!

Post by Prince David »

Any advice on how to get through the flying swords in Neverwinter's Tomb (Blacklake Dist)? I have a 3/5 thief/mage and D'aelean with me. I've tried twice now; once to fight it out, once to dash past and try and get the armor. Toasted both times. I've yet to try a bunch of potions before going in, but that's the next plan.

Are the swords vulnerable to magic? Can I fireball them a couple of times? Or is there someother trick to getting past them or wiping them out?

They are not immune to magic, not even magic that is show no the blades i think. If you are playing D&D hardcore rules or harder, cast a spell on Dalean that absorbs elemental damage. Then cast your fireballs.

The last time I went through the OC, Daelan and the pixie familiar soaked up enough damage for my sorcerer to cast three fireballs, and that did the trick.

I remember them doing a lot of physical damage, but a measly 2-4 elemental ones. As a Soc I had just cast stoneskin on my henchman, then used fireballs to take the swords out while he tanked.

You might not be able to spam fireball like I do, but a stoneskined dwarven monk (use a scroll for the stoneskin) should be able to take out the four swords with only a bit of help (you should be able to cast quite a few acid arrows or magic missiles by now).

If all else fails, use a potion to turn invisible, grab the armour and teleport back to the temple.

Buy the "Greater Belt of the Swordsman". It will help very much with its 20/- damage reduction to slashing.

I eventually went the invisible route. Although, if you cast mass invisibility, once one person breaks it, it's broken for everyone. So while Dalean got himself carved to bits I chugged a potion, then grabbed and dashed.

On the whole, I'm not sure I like being able to base my stretegy around me or my henchmen dying. Seems kind of cheap. Oh well, if I want the whole death thing I can haul out my Baldur's Gate.

one dirt bag at a time

I've taken these guys out solo, playing Hard Core, with my Ranger/Thief (3/3) a number of times for some nice Exp. pts ( around 1800 pts for the lot I think :D )......
With a mitt full of traps ( sonic and neg. energy preferred ) I down an invisibility potion and sneak immediatedly behind the stair wall from where I entered. I then gingerly set a few good traps then buff up like crazy - ghost armour is nice here.
Once again, I slowly slide out one side until I've got ONE of the swords visible, then give him a quick arrow to the lips to qet his attention before scooting back unseen behind the wall. If I've been carefull he'll come packing ALONE, run through a couple traps to soften him up then its One on One fun. I repeat quickly to keep my buffs up and lure them in one at a time.
It's a little shifty but still a good fight.
It's not pretty but neither is getting my ash handed to me like a Narc at a biker rally - get surrounded = get pounded

"thief 3/wizard 5"? 0_o

Anyway, you can just kill them with magic, yes. Summon something for them to munch on, then blast away.
