Imalias first mission - bugged?
I really don't think it's a matter of lacking skill. I have 9 sneaking, and I've been through the whole place without ever going above 50, staying green (not even getting yellow, let alone red), and never provoking any cautious stances or wary questions of "Who's there?"
I've made it through flawlessly four or five times at least. All green, no words, no strange actions, no attention, no nothing.
If there's no workaround, I'd just assume wait for the official patch than manually set the global variable, but thanks for the information.
The "notarget" command makes the PLAYER(!) invisible to NPCs. But, every effect the player causes is NOT be invisible to NPCs. When you are invisible (as a result of stealth or the notarget-command) and you open a door in front of a NPC, he will notice that someone is there and you fail the quest.
If it is totally impossible for you to finish this quest because of lack of skill or you are using the "Quicksave" exclusively (like me), do the following:
1. go to the cemetery in Hollywood
2. open the console
3. type: FindPlayer().SetQuest("Imalia",5)
This will solve your problem.
Great tip! The console command is awesome.
But I have to call you in on the "impossible" of the quest. My Ventrue, with 2 points in Stealth (yes, 2!!) did the entire quest, no cheats and no saves. Its not really that hard. You just have to know where the people are going, and then move quickly.
I think one major sticking point is this-- you HAVE TO open the door crouched. Whenever I opened it standing, the people immediately said, "who's there?" and I failed. Just crouch when you open it and you're golden. Its doable, people... but use that cheat given by FamilyGuy if you give up.

Hmmm yeah... see... I'm not an idiot, Maxinion. I didn't even stand up to operate the computer.
If you made it through, then I'm happy for you. You did not experience the bug. However, yes, this quest is impossible for those that are getting stuck with the bug. Even with INVISIBILITY, and level NINE sneaking, I cannot manage to get through. Although, I guess there always is that possibility that I'm a 7 year old who doesn't understand the concept of staying crouched when opening doors and knowing that they've been caught when someone says "Who's there?", so I appreciate you pointing that out for me... you know... just in case I'm an idiot.
btw I'm not actually upset. I'm just having some fun with ya

Bwah, you see that's the problem with bugs. Some, like the Society of Leopold, we all get and get to gripe about together. This one, apparently, listens to only a select few... two characters so far through it, no hitch, so looks like I'm safe. Sorry for re-stating the obvious Ruds, I was not in a good thinking mood and should not have posted. Guess the console command is all you have left
EDIT: This is also a lesson for me to use the 'newest post' button more religiously, as I had skipped over reading the middle of this post, where most of Ruds' comments reside... having read only the beginnning and end, I replied to those sections... my bad, again.

similar problem...
I'm having a bit of trouble myself (honestly the first time so far). I've gotten to that pretty model's hotel room, with my level 5 obfuscate, so I know that unless I run smack into someone, there is no chance they can see me. I plant the web cam on the end table in the living room, scope out the kitchen and notice that there isn't a glowy ball place to plant one, so I move into the bed room to find a glowy ball place on the bedside table. I wait for the boyfriend to go into and out of the bathroom about a dozen times before he makes his way to watch the crazy newscaster, I go into the bathroom...glowy balls on the sink...I approach to place web cam, and all I'm given the option to do is FLIP A SWITCH! What the H*LL is going on? I think that I was pretty patient, waiting longer then about three loads into Santa Monica before I got fed up (and checking the laptop five times) and reloaded. Standing outside of her hotel room, I got fed up and came here for help...Can anyone help a hopeless malkavian? I've got candy...

Really sorry...I promise I will read EVERYONE's post all the way through before posting anything again....DOH Thank you VoodooDali for your wonderful insight into how much a malkavian mistress can carry (my common sense could have told me but the other voices were just SO LOUD...) Later ya'lls

I used a Nos with Obfuscate 5 and Sneaking 9 and failed this quest every time. I was never seen, no one shouted "Hey, Who's there?" Crept along the walls and everything and still failed. I ended up having to kill everyone in order to finish the quest. Is anyone 100% sure that thats not what your supposed to do from the get go?
to me the Model Citizen Quest bug was really the worst so far and almost made me quit playing.
I hate cheating, but i even hate more to be be forced to cheat in order to move on.
i tried this quest maybe 30 times, and failed everytime. but even with cheats (notarget) i could not complete it right.
to bad they didn't fix this in the patch as i was waiting to go on until the patch was there.
I went with FamilyGuy's recommendation, but i was missing the money i should get as reward.

I think I may have a new variation on the theme.
I arrived in the warrens, walked over to Imalia (never seen her before in my unlife, I swear) and the first thing she did was tell me I was a worthless idiot. I didn't even get to introduce myself. *tear*
I think this may have been caused by entering the pad where you access Tawni's apartment *prior* to getting the quest. As it is, I'm going to do the makeup quest and then complete the Model Citizen business. . . hopefully it's fixable. . .

I found that saving during stealth missions messes it up and I did the Imalia stealth mission over and over again (saving after certain points) until I figured that out. Try saving after you enter the hotel she's at, but do not save after opening her door or anything, then return to Imalia and see what she has to say.
