Mysterious emails - From a friend???(SPOILERS)

Post by showoffjp »

hmmm...

This whole thing kinda got me. After finally beating the game(being able to play it all the way through now with the new patch), andseeing the awesome anarchs ending, I was wondering: who sent all those emails entitled various things such as A White Pawn or The Black Queen, etc, which have things such as: The White Pawn has fallen, or All actions must accept the concequences, or anything else like this...could it have been Jack? Ming Xaio? Maxamillian? Beckett? I have no clue...any help? Thanks...

I guess they were just put in there to make you get a catch on the intrigues played on you if you bothered to put some thinking into the mails. You are definately the pawn in the chess game and LaCroix is the white king. Dr. Grout, the Malkavian Primogen is the white bishop. Ming Xiao is the black queen.

As for who the "friend" sending the emails is, I would assume it was Jack or one of the anarchs at least. After all it was Jack planting the bomb in the sarcophagus which kills LaCroix in the end, and before that happens the "friend" sends you an email saying "don't open it."

Could also have been Caine...

It was not Strauss. At least officially he doesn't have the insight into LaCroix intrigues to send you all these mails, especially from the earliest stages in game. It was not Beckett either, you get the first mail before you actually meet up with Beckett for the first time. It was not Ming Xiao because she is refered to as the black queen and the one suggesting the chess game always gets to play white in chess tradition.

I think we got a conspiracy theory going on here now. :p

This has been discussed before on this forum. I think the general consensus was that it was either Caine, Beckett, or Jack.

My money is on Caine. Beckett doesn't actually show much interest in the main character up untill the end of the game and Jack isn't the type to be sending mysterious chess e-mails. That only leaves Caine. The only problem with this theory is simmilar to the problem plaguing the identity of the taxi driver: Why would the eldest vampire with several millenia under his belt be a taxi driver? Likewise, why would he bother sending cryptic e-mails to a sireless fledgeling? But then again, why wouldn't he? Who knows what goes on in the mind of a vampire that old....

Even worse, why would the most acient being on the earth, older even then the son of god, purcahse one of these "mystical vision boxes" in order to send "paperless letters of green and white that float on the solid water that sits sideways"?... In other words, when did caine become a nerd?

Listen very carefully to the "normal" taxi driver and to the one at the end of the SPOILER:Santa Monica Blood Hunt. They sound different, in my opinion. Who's to say that Jack and Caine (who are working together) didn't arrange for this meeting, and that Caine becomes the cab driver at the very end only to guide you to a decision which will effect all of LA?

Well, no matter what the reasoning, I guess it doesn't make much sense.

To be quite honest, being able to send e-mails doesn't make you a nerd. If Caine has been able to keep himself concealed for all this time, he was either asleep for a long while or he learned to blend in. If my mother could learn how to send e-mails then I'm pretty sure that a superior entity of such magnitude should be able to master that skill in a matter of hours... :D

Actually, this makes perfect sense. Caine actully isn't a Taxi driver, he just pretends to be in order to see how all of this ends up....

well...

That would explain alot, though technically, Caine, who probably originated from the European area, spending alot of time there, might have learned to drive in that area, where as most of us know, the drive on the left side of the road instad of the right. That would explain why he's always on the wrong side of the road, and why he has that funny accent. Or mabey the developers just put it in for kicks(or they were drunk...). Who knows? Judging from all these bugs and crashes in the game, it might be the later.

Well i'm going alitle of topic now, but i live in Europe, and as far as i know the entire mainland of europe drives on the right.
(on the other hand this could explain why i keep getting pulled over ;) )

There are 2 places in the world where they drive on the left (that i know of) HongKong, and Great Brittain.

As for the e-mails, i dont know who wrote them, and actually i dont want to know. Let's keep it a mistery.
I do not have the touch, nor do I have the power.

Well, I wasn't alluding to the fact that Caine COULDN'T send emails, more to the fact that acient vampires are known for their hatred of change and new things.. Fear of them in fact. Ghouls have been slaughtered en-masse for suggesting to elder vampires that maybe a phone call would be faster then inking a parchment with a feather pen.
Elders fear change, because it means all the things they knew, could control, could understand, loved and made them who they were in life are dying and leaving them behind. As a rule, all but a few generaly just create ghouls to handle anything that needs "modern magic"... S'what I meant... Nor did I want to suggest that anyone who uses email is a nerd.. Ahem.. Sorry to anybody who (like me) loves the ease of email, and sorry to any touchy nerds who may consider me lumping them all together like that an injustice. He he.

Two possibilities that no one seems to have thought of are Gary (the Nosferatu know all), or the fortune teller thin-blood (forgot her name) from the Santa Monica beach. From the cryptic nature of the mails I would probably got with the latter.

Makes sense, except for one detail: She's homeless and lives on a beach. So unless she's got a laptop with a wireless net connection she's not much of an option....

I'd sooner go with Gary.

Well, it would have to be someone, like Caine, who actually knows what's going on(with LaCroix, The Kuei-Jin, The Sabbat, etc)

I actually did think of this, but figured that she had to go somewhere other than a sunny beach during the day.

I kinda wish the game developers could have put more into the fourtune teller, giving her a more active role, as she is quite interesting(and so are her fourtunes). She could have more fourtunes throughout the game as you come up with different questions, etc. That would've been cool...

There's alot of things the developers should have done...Imagine how different the game would be if it was like GTA:VC...central story line, but oodles of unconnected side quests and free roaming game play.

Mysterious elder

I don't believe the emails were from Caine. I've read some of the stuff the White Wolf has written for their pen-and-paper RPG, Vampire: The Masquerade; (SPOILER ALERT) they give mention that Caine was hands-off with the Jyhad affair, and that in fact Caine didn't like the fact that more and more Vampires are being Embraced.

In my opinion, the mysterious emails were sent by an Malkavian elder (not any of the NPC Malkavians though) playing the Jyhad. Afterall, sending cryptic emails seems like something a Malkavian would do.

A Malkavian? Doubtful...Most likey it was Jack, as he was the driving force behind everything and makes it well known how he feels about polotics and manipulation.
