Do left behind NPC's still gain experience?

Post by Tjobov »

Hello. I left Xzar & Montaron behind in an earlier game at the Friendly Arm Inn, and when I came back after a while to check on them, I noticed that they were still Level 1 and it looked just like they hadn't gained any experience at all.
Is this true? Because I'm not quite sure which party will be my final party, so I'm going to try to travel with as many (good-allignment) NPC's as possible, to get to know them a little better, meaning though that I always have to leave a few guys behind. Now if these fella's don't get any stronger during my abcense, that would be a bit of a problem. Could someone give me perhaps a bit more information about this?
Smile everyone, smile! This is like some great Fantasy!

It is quite some time ago - but I belive your findings are correct.
I don't think they gain experience while not in your group.

Right. :)

The level of a joinable NPC depends on your level when you first enter the area they spawn in.

If you leave the area without them and return at the higher level they will still be at the level they originally spawned at. Similarly, dropping characters from your party and returning to pick them up later leaves them unchanged.

Yes but you gotta remember that if you are high level it prolly won't take a long time until those low lvls are high lvl
The problem is that the people with the most ridiculous ideas are always the people who are most certain of them.

Is it the first time you enter the area or the first time you talk to them? I was under the impression that it was the latter, though I have never tested this.

The first time you enter the area; that's when they spawn.
