can't sell any items

I have gone to the pawn shop in santa monica several times, also the guy with the white truck in downtown and i am never given any options to sell items. Is this a glitch I have and I am just screwed or am i doing something wrong?

If you select an item in your inventory, it should have buttons for 'sell', as opposed to when you select something in theirs and you see 'buy'.

There are things you cannot ever sell, though. No one wants to buy a severed limb ... and I couldn't sell any basic clothing/armor. Or diaries or pictures or licences other personal quest items.
